All the usual suspects appear to be mentioned.

My 10 pence worth.

A44 to Broadway (Worcestershire) - Fish Hill (heading up). Not the longest stretch of road (a few tight apexes), but motoring nirvana if you are dialled in. Heading to a Wedding in the Cotswolds this evening, via Fish Hill. Rather looking forward to it.

I had a trip out on Thursday up to AppleCross - skies were blue, roads were empty and enjoyment was high.

Applecross pass - is just a hoot to drive, especially when it is quiet, and the journey there and then onto Torridon, is just fantastic.

The best roads by far are in Scotland. Scenery to die for.
Go at the right time of year and they will be almost deserted.

These five linked together: A835/A837/A894/A838/A836 - https://goo.gl/maps/g7nign99A5P2
Same place: very different weather.

2015 - wall to wall sunhine

2016 - heavy cloud and frequent rain squalls

And the A93/A939 - https://goo.gl/maps/S7sGZ5eKn4S2

A personal favourite is Thirsk to Castleton via Hutton Le Hole up in North Yorks. The twelve or so miles from 'H Le H' is good fun!

Fortuitously.......I have a copy of an old Autocar which did an article on this subject several years ago.nerd

I haven't done them all myself but thought it would be worth mentioning anyway. In no particular order, eight worthies were given as:

Tiverton to Minehead A396
Cirencester to Chipping Norton B4425/ A361
Wragby to Louth A157
Newcastle to Edinburgh A696/A68
Congleton to Buxton A54
Ffestiniog to Brecon A470
Llangynidr to Beaufort B4558/B4560
Winchester to Midhurst A272

Others included:

Hereford to Worcester A44
Peterborough to Bedford B660
Craven arms to Abermule (Wales) B4368 ( I can vouch for that one - cracker!)

Scotland!
Great roads, i have done a fair few of them myself!

I wouldn't say these are necessarily top 10, but I thought I'd add a couple I enjoy:

A356 from Crewkerne to the A303
B1363/B1257 from York to Helmsley - the roads beyond onto the Moors are better publicised, but they're quite open so you have to be going a lot quicker to enjoy them (and quite busy in tourist season)

A few Lincolnshire roads;

Most of the roads around Bardney, Horncastle, particularly the white road from Bardney to Baumber then up the B1225 Caistor High St.
B1205 west of Caistor
B1202 Bardney - Wragby - Rasen
B1190
A157 to Horncastle then B1183 to Revesby then take the A155 in either direction
B1398
A607 or better still, the white roads running on the top of the Cliff above it
B1191
B1188
B1202 back to Bardney...

Great selection. thumbup

But the A157 is Louth to Wragby not Horncastle.
Wragby to Horncastle is the A158.
Louth to Horncastle is the A153.

Know them all quite well as my sister lives near Barnetby-le-Wold.
Which is useful for attending track days/events at Cadwell Park.
smile

My route from RAF Waddington: Potterhanworth/Bardney/Baumber/Caistor/Bigby.
The B1225 is the pick of the bunch for me.

Exeter to Barnstaple is excellent, a361 at a quiet time if you want a fast run or the a377 if you want a corner fest. Some speed cameras on the a361 and lots of signs about deaths but have never come across any near misses etc you just need to respect the rules like not over running into hatched lanes etc.

Cornwall - the old bodmin to st austell road (A3059) is also excellent, some complex turns and long straights. Boy racers used to use the long straight into Victoria (under the railway tunnel) as a drag strip, if you ever see it you will know why.

Torpoint - Trurulefoot, again a major death road because the road is so good and no speed traps, all the bikers use it, take STUPID risks (always the car drivers fault tho m8) and then die. Lovely road in the summer when it is quiet though.

confused Are you sure about that road number? AFAIK it runs from the A30 near St Columb Major to the A3058 at St Columb Minor.

Go west. smile - the B3306 St Just to St Ives (and vice-versa!). Great views of the Atlantic coast for most of it - https://goo.gl/maps/KhDBpqtW88S2

Have you included the Blue Stone Heath Road in there?

Another great fun road near Bardney, go over the bridge heading for Lincoln and take the first left to Waspnest. What follows is a bonkers low speed roller coaster ride as the road is collapsing into the peat. 4x4 and kids a necessity. Try it before they fix it.

You can't see it on Maps because the old a30 road interlaps with the new one (on Google maps) but if you go to Victoria and past the old BP station on the left and past the Little Chef also on the left and just stay on that road, you go under a railway bridge and there is a straight exactly 3/4 long (hence dragstrip!) just stay on that road all the way to Newquay (past the airfields). Epic road especially in a small engined car that you can really drive properly!

Ah, I'm on the same page now. smile

The road you're talking about is not the A3059 but the original route of the A30 which is now unclassified.
It used to run parallel with the railway all the way across Goss Moor then over it towards Indian Queens, Fraddon, and Blue Anchor.
Part of the western section no longer exists and is subsumed into the Goss Moor National Nature Reserve.

The 'drag strip' going under the railway bridge after the B3274 cross roads - https://goo.gl/maps/4v9ZaU96UnR2
I don't think this section between the junction with the old A30 and the Trekenning roundabout has ever had an A or B number.
It certainly didn't in 1961 (zoom in) - http://maps.nls.uk/view/91577526
