Figured out were this was so went there today. was really good, a lot better than things like the triangle. scenery was prety epic when you get higher up and there are plenty of tight turns and hairpins you can safley play oround with oversteer on.

There are some good roads around Brecon area

On another matter there arent enough pictures in this section of pistonheads.
If you've been somewere good take a picture.

+1 for wanting to know where that is, I'll be in Caerphilly (near cardiff) in a few weeks so wouldn't mind a trip down there if it's not far

Would love to do these sort of roads in the evo. It's what it was made for!

My auntie lives in south wales near swansea and i used to go there as a kid, reckon i was last there 20 years ago, all i remember even from that age is the mountain roads behind her place. Maybe be worth a trip up there. Have to watch the old sheep though, remember them literally hanging around in gangs on the roads, or was that the welsh youths hehe

Respect to the Volvo!

Cracking road, one my favourites, and there are many great suurounding roads there aswell, although I haven't yet driven the Evo triangle, I think the Brecons could probably offer up something similar!

Here is the video review of our University Motorsport Society year last year, its a mix of some other stuff but there is a bit of an in-car clip going over the top of the mountain, and a few pictures near the hairpin in there as well. clicky

great video! looks like you have a lot of fun. makes me wonder if birmingham has anything like that.
no one expects the sideways volvo. just need a national trust sticker for it now. I see a 405 in there too and a broad mix of cars.

Thanks, lots of uni's have a Motorsport Society of some sort, our one always had a quirky collection of cars, and benefited from having roads like this on our doorstep! There are a few relatively unknown back roads around there that are quite unbelievable, I will try and figure out exactly where they are on a map. The 405 mi16 was miguel38's, he has since replaced it with a dog of a 309 though biglaugh

Cracking bit of road especially the bit across the top although watch out for cows (and the sheep for that matter!) and the hairpins on the descent, spent an afternoon going up and down it.

I have put together a route which does this and some other great roads in the Brecon park plus a few in the surrounding area, the whole route's about 175 miles so if you want details or the TomTom itn file with it all preprogrammed PM Me. Starts near newport and ends at chepstow

Excellent road! It was used as a "liason" road by the WRC at the weekend so all the rally boys went over, as did I on my way back to Swansea from Halfway.

Never driven it before, so my first time over was in the dark and following Tony Jardine in his Group N Fiesta ST. He's not one of the top drivers and he certainly wasn't rushing but he was sooo smooth and his lines were perfect. An education.

Just wish I'd been a bit earlier so I could have learnt from Solberg instead biggrin

My new toy is a freeware program called TYRE which allows you to plot out TomTom itinerary routes using Google Maps or Google Earth. I've been playing around for a while and I don't even go to Wales for another three weeks! I know, I'm a sad, sad man.

Needless to say I already have a route with the Black Mountain road, the B4650 and a few other apparent highlights noted down, so anyone's who's interested PM me and I can send you a TomTom *.itn file. No guarantees to its accuracy yet though!
