Apart from slip roads, what is the tightest bend on a motorway stretch in the UK where you can really feel the g-forces at work? I reckon it's the M5 by Junction 1 smile

Not sure about specifics but there a few good ones on the M6 around the Lakes, some on the M74, and several on the M62 as it crosses the Penines.

The kink on the M40 between 8 and 9 is suprisingly tight at 150+ leptons.

I'll agree with that. Heading south there is a particularly nasty bump half-way around, that is a good test of suspension and handling. Good fun in the wet, if the person in front brakes half-way-around.

Then on the north side have you seen the flowers coming out of the bend ? obviously someone met their end.

Maybe the M4 near Newport?

There's a couple of tight'ish bends at the beginning of the M11 London end. Mind, I think it's a 50mph limit so perhaps does not count.

Wouldn't 150 laptons per hour be 15000 mph? smile

100 leptons in a lapton?

Has to be that elevated section between 2 and 1!

I would guess its the M53 around Ellesmere Port. Sure that road shouldn't be a motorway!

The first rule of leptons is "You do not talk about leptons.". The second rule of leptons is "You DO NOT talk about leptons." wink

Theres quite a tight curve somewhere around the north-western part of the M60 i seem to remember, i'd struggle to say exactly where though.

End of the A329M going into Bracknell? Rubbish surface and narrow lanes too...

There's the bit at Bredbury on the SE that was quite hairy, but it's 50mph now with SPECS due at at least one very nasty accident.

Is that the bit with the stupid 50mph limit where you see trucks doing it at considerbaly more in the wet? smile

(I agree it's quite twisty for a motorway, but I hate those signs!)

slip road from M25 to M40 (North). Deadly in the wet, fun in the dry.

Has a habit of freezing in the dip in winter

After hanging back at 70 on M25 then up to (ah-hem !) NSL on slip road / M40.

Yup, it's the only fun bit hehe

I was going to suggest the very last bend at the southern end of the M271 in Southampton, but it doesn't look so bad on the map. It is VERY sharp though and it's a good thing that the roundabout makes most people slow to 40-ish at that point. I've heard they've had some very nasty accidents there.

Do you mean the junction to the slip road which joins the A35? For a start it is in no way part of the motorway, and can be easily taken at the speed limit. Or at 70.

Another vote for that stretch of the M4 near Newport and the M5 between 1 & 2 (which also has an advisory 50 limit, which is nono - it can be much more fun than that). Also M6 North, that right hander after the J9 entry slip is pretty tight and seems to narrow at that point as well. Optical illusion I suspect.

The M4 50mph limit at Newport hasn't been there that long and most people are still ignoring it. As much as it's a relatively tight motorway corner it's still comfortably negotiable at >1 lepton. irked

It's a bloody mess though in rush hour now that you've got a mix of people trying to do .9 leptons in lane 3, trucks over taking people sticking to the limit in lane 1 and some people determined to do the limit and no more in lane 3 regardless of what's going on around them. Add in the corners which mean some people are terrified of changing lane and, well, we're going to see more accidents there soon.
