I guess I really should ask - how much time should I bargain on once I leave the motorway ?

Actually I've been into town a couple of times in the morning and it's not actually that bad, I'd be safe and plan 45 minutes once off of the motorway (I live about 2 minutes from the exit)

You are best off going down Smithdown Road, past the Liver building and taking the right at the crossroads...

ETA parking isn't that great either.
