Anyone else there yesterday? Seemed very quiet while I was there around midday. I only saw a couple of other cars.

TR Boy said: Quite simply the best stretch of tarmac I have ever driven!! Clearly you haven't been to Scotland then. 4 days and just shy of 800 miles of the best driving roads in the UK. On one of the days we saw just 4 cars in nearly 100 miles. The Black Mountain road is great but it's over far too quickly!

Good road, but vastly overrated. The Aberystwyth Mountain Road is much better.... But you need to get there early to enjoy it. Last time I did it in an afternoon, I came across a couple if w kers in SUVs towing caravans.

Good fun. The In-laws live near Cardiff so I try and persuade the OH that it's 'on the way home' (to Norfolk) when we go.

Brilliant at night but too slow in daytime, surely?

It's brilliant on the bike - but also very good in the MX5. I've done it 3 times this year - first time on a crisp morning in the MX5 in March, then in April on the bike and later in April on a weekday afternoon in the MX5 with Mrs Mrs VeeFour.

The problem with those roads for me is the lack of forward vision and the likelihood of an oncoming car being around the next bend or over the next brow, occupying the same piece of tarmac with no chance of passing each other. I prefer the nearby A44.

If single track is your thing Tregaron-Abergwesyn is another good one. Night time + 4 of these.

Want to head to the A4069 next week as Im visiting parent in Bridgend. Anyone suggest a good circular route from Bridgend for me to use? Dont want to make the mistake of going the 'wrong way' through the good bits.

Brilliant at night but too slow in daytime, surely? I wasn't quite sure about the Mountain Road either. In most places it's too narrow to go past an oncoming car at any sort of speed, and the dips, crests and bends mean - with that in mind - you don't often have the visibility to let rip. Great as a closed special stage. I found a road in Snowdonia that was similar to the Mountain road, but with much better visibility (can't for the life of me remember its name) and that was sublime. Only singletrack, but you could press on quite enthusiastically without the danger of meeting anyone unexpectedly. Cooked the brakes on the Focus.

I am about to leave sunny Surrey now to go to North Wales again and am taking the scenic route from the South so I should be on this bend some point mid afternoon - really looking forward to it and hope the weather holds out.
