I don't post much on here but I thought I'd show you guys some pics of a recent tour I did.
Hopefully it might give you some ideas if you are planning something similar yourself.

I must get myself back "home" from the Mildands for an extended 
session in the Highlands. Making a date to do this in Spring 2010.Thanks for sharing the pictures, always nice to be reminded how picturesque Scotland is

A Scottish Highlands Roadtrip is an absolute must for anyone with even just 1% Optimax coursing through their veins. You simply HAVE to do it!
I 'went for it' recently, and was completely gobsmacked for days on end at the UNBELIEVABLE scenery and also the quality of most the roads.
It has been said that 'anywhere north of Glasgow' is where you want to be exploring; and I would wholeheartedly agree with this. Just go for it!
The scale is somewhat gargantuan if you aren't used to it, but it's worth the effort to go to John O Groats, for example, and follow the coastal route along the top, and then down the West Coast where the landscape surpassed all of my expectations. The road to Mallaig and some of it's offshoots is stunning....
This was my first time visiting 'proper' Scotland. It was also my first time on the A82 through Glencoe and across Rannoch Moor (WHAT a place that is!). Over the years, I've enjoyed exploring the roads and scenery Wales has to offer and, similarly, around areas like the North Yorks Moors. I'd always wondered, whilst pootling along, if I'd ever come across a car mag doing a shoot for a forthcoming article, as these are the places they tend to frequent when doing a test....
Well, the weather was perfect on the A82 that day; slightly misty, some occasional low cloud and just the right amount on sunlight to create a very moody scene.......for Evo to be doing a Mega test of the creme de la creme of the latest mouth watering machines available
! !
I won't say any more other than that it will be an issue worth getting!
I most certainly hope to go again! I haven't done a Euro hoon - yet. But Scotland must take some beating. Make sure you do it, just don't all go at once!!

First of all - "The road to Mallaig etc" ---I hope that you tried out some of the bits of old road left -give you an idea what those of us of veteran years drove, whilst the rest of the UK had motorways -and in the heights of winter - snow ploughs - what are they - particular interesting bit is the last bit from Glasnacardoch into Mallaig passing the School . Then there's the side roads ,mostly around Arisaig - going mainly nowhere ,but give an idea of what living up there years ago was like- in winter the sea froze on the rocks outside Arisaig. .One trip worth taking is via Corran ferry to Lochailort( via Strontian) .Another is to visit the lighthouse at Ardamurchan .One way in ,one way out -but beautiful .And various other routes around the Argyl peninsular .I 'went for it' recently, and was completely gobsmacked for days on end at the UNBELIEVABLE scenery and also the quality of most the roads.

(In case you wonder - I hail from Mallaig-my grandfather founded the port ,and my close relatives still fish out of it ) - and used to work out of Fort William , on an approx radius of at least fifty miles )
Then the A82 - great road at any time of the year - horrendous in winter ,more so in summer ,with the scenic gourmets (and the talivan ).
Glad you enjoyed it - It's only recently that I've realised that it's one of the few great places left on this island -but one that only my spirit will be able to revisit .

The road through Glencoe is also my favourite, I live in Oban and get to drive from Oban to Glasgow everyweek on the A82, a brilliant road when dry, not so much when wet!Edited by enioldjoe on Wednesday 14th October 18:12
