Hi

I've seen a good looking job at Luton Airport but I live in Ealing. Would the commute be hell? Assuming roughly normal office hourse

Thanks for your advice

ealing to luton = a40, a406, m1, local roads to airport

so yes it would be pretty bad.

you could always move to a location nearer luton, or get a job at heathrow if airports is your bag.

Yes.. it would be painful. 8 Years back I worked in Sutton (Surrey) and I live in Kent and although only 36 miles each way. I would spend 4 hours a day in the car. I hated it and quit the job within 4 months. You would probably have a similar experience and I can assure you Monday morning and Friday's you would soon loathe it. Hope you drive an Auto and have an extensive music collection to cope with the boredom.

although a motorcycle could make the trip a lot more bearable.

sounds pretty hefty mate.

I too live in ealing. I however commute up to just past warwick/Stratford (basicaly jump on the A40 at perivale (avoid Hanger lane like the Plague!)its strait up the m40.)

The journey to luton very much depends on the time you would leave really. the roadworks on the relevant section of the M25 are the real bummer dont even bother to attempt these at peak times but when theyr finished it shouldnt be too horrendous

Dual carriageway from J10a to the airport has just been upgraded, and further improvements are plannned for J10a itself, as this is now the bottle neck at rush hour.

You could go out on the M4 to the M25 and round to the M1, it's not a pretty journey on the way home though. The M4 eastbound during rush hour is a car park.

???

to get to luton from ealing you'd use the a40, which intersects the north circ (a406) at hangar lane.

a406 to m1, m1 all the way to luton.

Why you'd even entertain the thought of going on the m25 I have no clue.

It was just an alternative route. Wasn't saying it was the best route.

Its not too bad of a journey, I used to live near Ealing and commuted from there to Luton everyday and it didn't take too long.(I used to leave at 6.30 am to get there for 7.30ish).

Probably get shot for this but what about the train? I rarely wait longer longer than 10 mins for a train between Luton airport & St Pancras; so regular day and night that I don't ever bother with timetables. Train takes you to Parkway, not the airport itself mind.

The bus is no longer free, but isn't too bad - think it was a quid each way last time I looked. Although you do have to run the risk of sharing it with some of the distinctly odd people which Luton Airport seems to attract.

I think that the guided bus route may have been approved now which could improve things considerably in the future (will run from Parkway into the airport).
