I'm planning a road trip with a weeks skiing added. im taking my type r and am worndering how much it will cost all in, im thinking of going down through germany to get a bit of vmaxxx 
and miss the toll roads as its only an extra 200miles,
It sais on google maps it will take 20 hours but ive done some calculations and think 17/16 hours is a decent time, can any one tell me if they have drove to the alps before and how long did it take them, im going to leave at 12 midnight and drive till i get there.
would also be grateful if any one could give me an idea of prices>? i think 200- 250?

We just did Aylesbury to VT via autoroutes but have done loads of euro tours in various cars. The journey home took us 12 hours door to door including eurotunnel without any delays or waiting at the port and only one stop of 20 mins and 1 of 10 minutes! I would say your 20 hours is about right personally.
A good place to calculate your costs is the viamichelin website routeplanner which will calculate your fuel, toll costs etc when you put in your car details.
Yes, you can beat the times but when you factor in that you need breaks it normally ends up being about right timing wise on the google/viamichelin calculations. Obviously going up the mountain is rather slow but that's only the last 37k or so which takes about an hour. Take snow chains also.
If you get tired I recommend F1 motels for £30 per night as useful for getting sleep when needed rather than battling away really tired.

Ive driven down to Meribel a few times from Calais, you can do it comfortable in 8hrs through the night, but it does depend on snow conditions 
In the beginning of Jan I went by coach to the Valley on the other side of Val Thorens, skied at Valmeinier. it took approx 11hrs on the coach with a few stops on route using french toll roads, coach was traveling at around 60mph most of the way. Not too sure about the German route, but one things for sure I would not go by coach again 
Self drive is the way
