Hi all

I'm planning on driving down to Meschers-sur-Gironde, just south of La Rochelle in the summer. The lady who's house we're renting has recommended Dover-Calais. Can anyone recommend a route that will keep the mrs happy ie it's relatively direct, but also takes in some quality roads?

Cheers for your help.

Newhaven to Dieppe ferry misses out 100 miles of motorway. Then go from there via Rouen to Le Mans and across to la rochelle or via Le Havre, CAen, Rennes and down to La Rochelle. Been down to the Il de Re twice these ways and also to Spain

Cheers for your help. What's the difference between the two routes or is there not much in it? If so I'll just look at which has the easier ferry times.

Rouen and Le mans easier (small detour to the Le Mans museum!!!). We go the other way sometimes as my folks live near Caen.

Nice one. Appreciate it. Will have a look at the ferry options now.

Yep, but Ashford to Calais on the train is only 35 minutes, then blast down to La Rochelle by late afternoon.

Any time I head for France I get over the other side in as few miles as I can on the basis that every mile you drive over in France is better than a mile over here, even on motorways.

True,

I'm a limited mileage policy with this car so I tend to avoid doing too many.
