Someone's a bit confused about the Dartford Tunnel. It's not in Hampshire, I can tell you that.

Was going to say the Brynglass tunnels, but I don't think anyone will be doing over 30 mph in there for a while!

Longest tunnel in UK now open: http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyI...

Enjoy - and go make some noise!
Both Mersey tunnels are longer.

I think you missed an important bit out of their marketing claim, as they said "longest tunnel that only goes under land and not water in the UK." wink

Tried to add the one on the A890 to Applecross and made an arse of it frown

Ummm, not sure if it counts but there is a section of three old train storage sheds under a train station in london which now function as road tunnels, they're nice, good reverb of the old brick work.

It's rely a great effort to collect the more detail information about various roads and tunnels and make the Google more and more accurate one. I think this should not only done for the tunnels but for the roads and the rail tracks also.

The Heathrow link tunnel seems to have migrated to the middle of the Irish Sea?

What is the difference between a tunnel and an underpass / road under a bridge?

The one listed as being just outside Guildford, under the A3, is, to my mind, not a tunnel.

If you are going to count the above as a tunnel, then:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8...

is one too (looking north).

But not in my humble opinion.

Google maps is telling me that UK maps can't be edited?

I was going to add 2 good underpasses that are long enough for 1st/2nd gear noise tests that I know of in Milton Keynes. frown

Sign into (or create) a google account and you'll be able to edit the map. It's open to all. smile

Forgot I posted here!

I already have a google account, business and personal, but editing wasn't working at the time of that post.

I found another decent tunnel. About 50 yards long. Southbound Jn17/Jn1 of the M1/M45.

I'd also point out that every Glasgoe tunnel (bar the Clyde Tunnel) on that map is inaccurate.

Underpasses, yes. Tunnels, no.

Well done! You've completely failed to understand the point of the thread! You also seem to be wrong.

Oh ok, next time I see Barry (who organises most West of Scotland runs) I'll tell him to make sure the 5-meter underpasses are included in the "tunnel" part of the runs.

Patronising eejit.

Patronising, maybe; Edjit? I'm not the one who doesn't know what a tunnel is.

I didn't question the literal tunnel definition, my friend.

I was advising that anyone seeking out some of these listed 'tunnels' on a dedicated tunnel run (as we sometimes do) might be somewhat disappointed.

Why have you taken it so personally?

I'm not picking a fight.

I've updated the location of the A505 Baldock Bypass tunnel as it appears it had managed to up sticks and move to near Bedford on the A421. Impressive.
