Cheapest crossing?

Anyone know cheapest way of getting over the channel? I'm going to france in August, would prefer to use the Tunnel but ferries appear to be nealy £100 cheaper for a return???

If it's Dover Calais I find P&O the cheapest and easiest, they have more sailings than the others so you can get bumped easily if you are early or late.

Another vote for P&O here. Plus, by the time I reach the ferry am ready for a good (subjective) breakfast on-board.

+1. Early morning crossings suit us (around 6.00am) and normally pay around £40 for car and 2 adults. No coach parties or hoardes of kids either, which suits me!

Dover to Calais by boat + Calais to Dunkirk by car
is always going to be faster than Dover to Dunkirk by
boat, so Dover to Dunkirk by boat must always be cheaper.

Very few sailings, compared to Dover to Calais, though.

Also, I find Sea France consistently cheaper than P & O,
so I am surprised to see P & O recommended for cheapness.

SF get even cheaper if you are a frequent traveller and
join their discount scheme.
