Roads in the North are crap thread...

If you're driving around the Lake District/Cumbria you have to bear in mind we saw the heaviest consistant rainfall on record late last year quickly followed by the longest freeze in more than 10 years. If anything's going to f*ck the roads, it's those two combined in quick succession.
I spent the weekend riding around North to mid wales and the road were devine... except for the police hiding in bushes as you nip by at a bikes topspeed.
I rode home through the peaks and could not believe the states the roads were in, they were frankly dangerous for a bike, mid corner in a NSL and there entire width of the road dropped 3" into a gravely mess.

It's all very well saying we had a drop of rain and then it got a bit cold so the roads can be expected to be shagged, BUT how come you can nip over to Austria/ switzerland in June and drive over a road that a few weeks earlier had 20' of snow on it and the tarmac will be practically perfect?????
