I have just returned this evening. On the way out, I was pulled over around Brive on the A20 for doing 152km/h in a 110 limit. 90euro fine, painless.

On the way back, as usual, there was a Gendarme hiding by the side of the road around junction 3 of the A26. Thank you to the driver of the rhd BMW 3er touring coming the other way whose determined flashing alerted me if nobody else. The A26 from the intersection with the A1 all the way to Calais should be treated with the greatest circumspection. There is always a GD somewhere along it in the Calais direction.

We've just got back from St Emillion, TomTom was very up to date on all of the radar and fixed camera spots. Also, without talking actual numbers we managed St Emillion to St Malo in a little under 4hrs30 mins... Staggeringly quick. Helped in no small part by setting off at 7pm on 14th July, Bastille day, so assume all and sundry were at the fireworks as roads totally empty. If you prefer a high speed drive to the excellent pyrotechnics then 15th August is a similar holiday. Bon route.
