Best Driving Route: Edinburgh to Bristol
Discussion
I'm planning to drive down to Bristol with the MR2 Turbo in a few weeks time, and was just after some recommendations on some decent roads on the way?
I'll probably be doing it over two days, so that should leave leeway to factor in some good routes.
I'll probably be using the Edinburgh to Moffat A702/A701 route out of Edinburgh (bit of a personal favorite) but after than I'll be on the M74 and craving more real roads...
Possibly some A/B roads through the Peak and/or Lake District?
Any thoughts?
Cheers as always!

Great road though the Moffat route is, in my view it is not the best. I would try these:
A68 to Otterburn
A696 to Belsay
B6309 as far as A69
A69 to junction with A68
A68 to Carterway Heads
B6278 to Stanhope then Middleton in Teesdale
B6276 to Brough
A685 to Kirkby Stephen
B6270 to Thwite
Buttertubs Pass road to Hawes
Then, either:
Fleet Moss Pass road to Hubberholme
B6160 to Grassington
B6265 to Skipton
59 to M6
Or:
A684 to Sedburgh and M6
By now you'll just want motorway, so:
M6, M42, M5 to Bristol
Places to stay: the Lord Crewe at Blanchland, the Rose and Crown at Romaldkirk or the Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey.

Yes, come off the M5 at Strensham. Take the M50 into Herefordshire, and then turn left at Ross on Wye onto the A40 down to Monmouth (awesome bendy downhill section of DC there). Hang a left at Monmouth onto the A466 and you get to follow the Wye Valley all the way down to Chepstow, which is a brilliant stretch of road especially if it's not a weekend when it's full of slow cars. Then hop over the old Severn bridge and you're pretty much there.
