So I've done the Brecon Beacons a few times now and think I've covered all of its awesomeness! I've got the weekend off next weekend (24th-25th) and I'm looking to get away for another driving weekend!

I'm coming from the south coast in Dorset and don't want to be much further than a couple of hundred miles.

Do I head back up to the Brecons, or is there somewhere else worth visiting?

Dartmoor? Exmoor? Cornish/Devon coastal roads (need to be early)?

Yea Exmoor has some great bits of road. The A396 from Tiverton to Minehead is great fun and turn left or right at Wheddon Cross and there is also some other good roads to be found. Another bonus is that theres no 40mph limit like there is on Dartmoor wink

What about Fenland. Ditches either side of completely straight roads. Roads more like the Greek rally stages except with only 90 degree corners. The most boring but dangerous roads you will come across. It might make you thankful for being within easy access of good roads lol.

I'd second Dartmoor or Exmoor if you want somewhere localish. Either can be fun out of season (which, granted, July isn't particularly) or for a bit of a dawn raid.

If you're on the east side of Dorset I can recommend Zig Zag Hill and the surrounding area - it doesn't have the "impossible to pick a bad one" array of roads that you get in, say, the Yorkshire Dales or the Brecon Beacons, but the hill itself is worth a trip to say you've done Britain's twistiest road if you're local-ish and the roads to and from it are better than average.
