London - Yorkshire - Scotland
Discussion
Chaps,
Will be doing a driving holiday with a good friend over the August bank holiday weekend, plus a day.
Leaving Friday early morning and need to be back in London, Monday night.
Scotland is the destination of choice, because it is simply superb. We know the roads there well and it's driving heaven.
However, it's quite a trek to Scotland and we'd like to go via somewhere intersting.
I've heard Yorkshire has some fantastic roads and is a place I have wanted to visit forever.
Could anyone suggest a good route via Yorkshire? Also, better to do Yorkshire on the way up or the way down?
Thanks!

Bad call, dude! Yorkshire has it's fair share of decent driving routes, as does Scotland, apparently........But there is nothing that I would like less to do than attempt some hoonery, or driving anywhere for that matter than on a BH weekend - especially in August!
You ever driven behind a caravan ?

If you must go, rather than stay at home and leave the car in the garage, then travel through the night, hole up in some wonderful hotel with magnificent views and relax and go walking or something. Don't try touring around: you will end up behind slow moving traffic that will travel mile after inconsiderate mile at a snail's pace and because of the narrowness and twistiness of the roads you will be unable to get past.
If you go this place is in a REALLY nice area.

And eat at the Wensleydale Heifer

..and possibly even stay there - they have rooms. If you drive over Askrigg Common and come back via the Buttertubs pass you'll get fantastic scenery and quiet roads - but you won't be going quickly I assure you...
