I don't think the Mk3 calipers will fit behind the 4 spoke turbines without a spacer.
You need some spacers, but only small ones.

Likewise.

In fact, if the OP wants them, I have some brakes from a Mk3 which are a direct fit. They need a bit of cleaning / tidying, but you can either collect them (free) or pay postage.
I would be interested in these, where are you based? smile

Interesting article posted above, is that the wiki that someone mentioned a few pages back?

It is indeed. Full of everything you need to know about Mondeos.

Update:

Going to give the car a good service today, and also break out the soldering iron and see if we can get this IMRC working again.

Will keep you updated!

I'd guess at about £20. Might be cheaper if I sent them individually!

I'll weigh them, then we can work it out.

Car looks good,i like most others here had one a few years ago and loved it.Should never have traded it in for that unreliable bucket of an ST170

I think i just passed you a wee while ago heading towards the millburn roundabout? I was in the old silver rs

You did as well! I noticed the other old Ford, your one looks really tidy smile

Good to see some other PHrs in Inverness, are you a member of any of the old car clubs up here?

Nice looking car! I always prefered the ST200 in blue, but all of these warm Mondeos are underrated. Those were the days when Ford was making a lot of affordable, interesting cars.

Thanks smile

Car has just been treated to an oil and oil filter change, along with a new fuel filter! Looks really solid underneath, a little rust on the spare wheel well, but I now have access to a ramp so will get it all cleaned up and undersealed soon smile

Considering a K&N filter for it, what do you guys think?

I'd choose a different brand of filter over K&N. I had one on my mk5 Fiesta Zetec S and it ran without problems but I recall something about them being oil impregnated and inferior to the likes if Pipercross etc etc. Otherwise, it sounds like a good idea.

Do you mean a panel replacement or a cone filter? I imagine a cone will just draw in hot under-bonnet air. Better check with your insurer first too. I'm told that gutting the pre-catalysts is quite effective without causing MoT problems.

looking good. i herd that the focus st170 brakes fit. also alot of people put a decent panel filter in and drill the air box. But gard knows how good that is. get rid of one of the cats aswell as you have two on there.

ST170 and Mk3 Mondeo are the same callipers. The setup gives you a 300mm front brake setup.

Depending on the calliper stamp on the ones on the ST24 they'll be desirable to TVR Griffith and Chimaera owners looking to upgrade. smile

You mean if I replaced them, the ones that come off might be of use to someone? smile

It would be a panel filter that would go on, a cone one wouldn't do very much I don't think. What would drilling holes in the airbox do?

yes potentially

If they are marked 887 and 888, then they're worth money as they are a nice upgrade for Griff and Chimaera owners.

Drilling the air box may give marginally more power I suppose, but I imagine the main result will be to increase the induction noise. The level of performance improvement will be similar to putting the back seat down to lower the C of G.

Took the IMRC apart the other night to have a poke about, sure as fate, it didn't work so I put it all back together again. However, I think I may have accidentally fixed it! I think it was a loose connection or something, but there was a big increase in power that kicked in around 4k.

Took it out for a blast today and was significantly faster, but on the way back it decided it didn't want to work again.

Will have another poke about and tighten everything up and see what happens. At least I know the car's potential now smile
