Chaps, my door glass doesn't seal very well with the door rubbers. I've thought about fitting thicker rubbers around the glass part of the door frame, but also about slightly bending the quarterlight frame inwards by a couple of degree. Have you experience?

I have experience of it not fitting very well, but no experience of solving it.

In theory the quarter light frames are adjustable, if you take the door card off you should see an adjusting screw at the bottom of the frame, the frame extends about 300mm into the door. However in practice you might find it's all seized up with corrosion.

I'd advise against doing anything with the rubber seals, if the doors shut OK and you don't have any (perhaps I should say many) leaks leave well alone. If you fit new rubbers your doors won't fit for months until it softens and squashes enough.

Air leaks and noise are a fact of life with frameless doors of this era... not much better now come to think of it!

I've recently got hold of a GoPro camera, handy little thing, so put this vid together of the GT.

Nice vid. Is the in-car footage a good representation of the noise level? If it is I realise how loud mine is.. I think the blue is one of the best colours on the car, very classy. Even though I have one of these great cars I still trawl youtube for videos of them....

On another note, I swear we are plugged into the same brain computer, as I have been looking at getting a Go pro 2, but was putting it off for over a month now. Now I'm defintiely going to go and purchase one. Collected my car after having a little bit of paint doing and wished I had the camera fitted, and on the way back mother nature decided to release a deluge on my little car which had me washing it, after it had been polished, for an hour and a bit before putting it away.. not happy. Waiting for the sun.

I have the same diff problem as you, I'm runnning a racing setup, my final drive is way down or up..get confused (5.10:1 !) and this leaves me going down hills faster in neutral than in fifth. I can go down the crown wheel and pinion route or basically get hold of another 1300 road box to swap it with as by the time it is stripped and parts replaced it is cheaper to replace the whole box. Neither of which is particularly cheap!

If you have a really short back axle I'm sure one of the racing boys might be interested.
Likewise if you have a 1300 gearbox with the lower 5th gear that will be of interest or someone might swap for one of the normal boxes. ClassicAlfa do exchange boxes for £500'ish I think or there's always some on Ebay, but assume they would need a full rebuild!

One of the biggest noise contributors is if you have some Carlos Fandango air intake setup.
The originals are by far the quietest.
What engine is in yours Kermit?

My car has the cross over filter and a standard exhaust in good condition. I'd say the predominant noise in the cabin is actually wind noise, and isn't really picked up by the mic.

Yes am aware of the options, but the costs are looking quite a lot, due to the requirement of a complete refreshed gearbox exchange (£595 plus the dreaded from Classic Alfa), and not getting a great deal in return for mine... with the usual labour on top.

I have the GTA trumpets so I understand where the extra noise is coming from...not that that concerns me. wink

The engine is the original 1300, that has been looked at, with high lift cams, porting etc. So do need to keep the standard 1300 ratio otherwise any perfomance will drop off quite considerably...

The Cross Over filter is very quiet, to be honest I think it's too refined, I prefer the induction grumble you get with a drilled 'straight' filter. K&N's or Trumpets are a bit much for every day road use, sound brilliant when you are being a loon though.... smile

There's a groovy looking ochre yellow 1600 Junior for sale on car and classic at the moment, in case anyone is tempted.

I've seen it in the Classic Chrome showroom in Mortlake, it really is very pretty. Always take a little detour to see what interesting in that garage if i'm in the area.

I considered buying Mark III Interceptor from them once, but it had a duff interior fitted by some bodger who had owned it before. It was fairly priced to reflect this. They had some very fine wagons in the showroom at the time. I might be passing by there soon, but ..... must-resist-buying-any-more-old-cars.

Well today I carried out a few jobs on my Alfa.

Firstly was to fit the wider seat for my other half.

Spot the difference...

I transferred the cross members, and thankfully the new seat had the same base dimensions.

My tool tray in the boot slides around a fair bit, and concerned about it hitting into the fuel filler spout, I drilled a couple of holes and fitted a bungy.

This is the new old airbox I have to fit to replace the cross over filter box that sits down near the exhaust manifold

You can adjust the airflow with the wheel on the end of the cylinder.

Spare gta style alloy wheel ready for its tyre

Other than that, having some new tyres fitted this week, 185 instead of 195 which should help correct the speedo a bit, and also there should be a tin of Dutch Blue paint arriving to touch up the paint chips.

Muy splendido. That looks like a ventilated steel wheel to me, but I may be wrong. Why do you need to fit a wider seat?

I can assure you that it is an alloy, just like the others on the car, but designed to replicate the design of the gta steelies.
I needed a wider seat for the passenger side because the current one was a bit tight on my girlfriend's hips!

Much fun could ensue by periodically changing back and forth between narrow and wider seat!

Alistair drill a load of holes in the central tubular bit of the Airbox, it will let more Air in sound better and give you a touch more poke smile

Or just paint the engine red. That way the car will go twice as fast, and you will be able to pull a bird who hasn't got a bum visible from the Space Station. HTH.
