That seat looks a bit easier to get out of than the race one. Probably pretty handy if you've got piles too biggrin

I trust the diff is still in one piece and not in the field next door? hehe

amazingly the diff is still on it but afterall its only had half the available revs put through it!!! the seat is very comftable, unlike that thing i have to fit back in it tommorow, last time the fire bragade had to come and remove me from it! fook me its a tight fit, cant wait for a proper road test.

Its about time we had a visit anyway, you and Mike can drive the thing!

For info all our remaps are done by Enda Ward of Endtune

http://www.endtuning.com/

Hes been out today and done a few for us, unable to test the datsuns power untill engine is run in but he did a 328 in a 318ti compact whilst down and the improvement on that was huge, a real flying machine, 1000kgish 4.1 LSD on gravel tyres, it went up the slushly icey lanes like a crook cat,

A load more pics, cage now in but door bars will be fitted last as we are still working inside it and they get in the bloody way!

The drivers seat is so tight i simply cant drive it, it hurts to sit in it and my arse and back simply get no where near the bottom/back of seat LOL

So coilovers next, followed by boot and bonnet and door bars

The car looks far better in the flesh, my digi camera anit very good, the flash highlights every spec of dust, its far better apreciated with the naked eye.

Seriously impressive project!

I'd give anything to have the skills needed in building a car like that. It feels like 5 minutes since you started it, although I know it isn't.

As a project, that ticks every single box for me! Retro looks, bulletproof german power out of a different car and superb build quality.

Awesome! thumbup

1st test drive today on the wet and muddy lanes ! OMG ! drivingnuts

Bloody thing wants to take off! 1st is useless, 2nd not much better, 3rd pretty much the same, 4th, bit of grip and 5th still lights up the rear end ! its very slippy out mind and the huge 1980's rear tyres are useless, when she finds some grip mind its rather quick.

A few teathing probs, it apears the pedle box came with the wrong sizze clutch cyl so a replacement is on its way, the gears are hard to get due to the clutch not dissengaing 100% due to having a to small cylinder on the pedle box, the rear end is knocking but we knew that so will have a look at that next,

I think she will need a good LSD to help get the power down,

What a fun car biggrin im sure on dry roads it would be ok but in these conditions nothing grips on the lanes around me! especially not this beast !

That'd do it! How do you go about finding poly-bushes for an old Datsun?

There seems to be plenty in the States and on US Ebay, full kits but not sure the kits include the 2 we need ! i have sent some email enquires allready, so fingers crossed ! other wise it will just have to have a Bimmer rear end too! maybe a Z3M as it looks similar to the datsun setup, prob is z3m stuff is like rocking horse poo! but dont tell mike that! not more crazzy conversion work ! lol

Zero traction?! Love it! biggrin

You reckon the lack of traction is just the tyres and weather conditions or that the suspension hasn't been set up yet, I.e toe and camber etc on the rear, or is it stock?

the rear end is untouched so far laugh totaly stock, tyres are 265 wide US made cooper things that look around 20 years old and only suitable for limos!!!, diff is open so 1 wheel drive, roads are very mucky near me, covered in mud, and to be fair a 318is with 140bhp dont get much grip on them. plus car has no weight in rear so it will prob need weighting up really on some corner scales, got some coilovers to go on, fit some new bushes and hopefully find it a nice LSD. then it will be ok hopefully!

After writting this i did take it a bit further to some cleaner lanes, It does have some traction, its very quick in 3rd to 5th upto 5000rpm, dont want to rev her anynore just yet and it produces the goods after 5000rpm eek

The suspension needs much work and will be done over the next few months along with some big AP racing brakes to stop it.

the car will have new wheels custom made by team dynamics and will get some decent track rubber on them.

I wish it were dry, should have built it ready for the summer not the bloody winter !

Right, gear selection issue sorted, it wasnt the clutch, when the engineering company extended the gear selection tube they must have miss oriantate it by a few degrees, harly noticiable but it has a huge effect, so i have ajusted that an now the gears are all good, I have ajusted the clutch bite too so thats better now an takes less depresion of the clutch pedle to disengage it

The knocking rear end has a temp bodge done, a bit of thick rubber put between the axle and the chassis where the top hat of the bush has broken off/worn away, and now theres no knocking, so def some new bushes required there.

A bit drier toay sso another road test, more traction, it feels extreemly quick biggrin
