A bored ebay sessions resulted in spotting this close by, complete with crap description. Ended with no bids so though I'd take a trip to the English Riviera (Torquay) to have a look. It was owned by a 93 year old woman who had given up driving, as all she did was have it driven to the MOT centre, driven back and then put in a garage. Checked the MOTs online, the earliest available is 2006 and since then it had done 80 miles! Completely original and even has remnants of the factory plastic on the rear seats.

So it's not very PH worthy, but having just driven to Kent I'm starting to rather like it. Also has the comfiest seats of any car I've ever owned. It had been smoking a bit, but that was solved once I drained over 6 litres of oil out of a 3.8 litre sump. Now for a set of period wheels and some slight lowering maybe...........?

love it, known to me in my teenage years of trawling the paper buying guides, as one of the lowest insurance groups for its on paper performance!

70k on the clock and I paid £295, which today is a good price for anything that has an MOT full stop. Remember when these things used to be everywhere, usually as minicabs? (actual minicab licence strictly optional)

Yes. "Period" being the right word, no modern days Rotas (replicas of old wheels or not). 2-piece wheels at least.

What's the PCD, 4x114.3?

I had one of these for a while, cost <£200 off Ebay IIRC. Easiest cars in the world to park, they're so boxy you can see exactly where the corners are :-)

Bah, the originals are horribly expensive.

Fantastic!

My late Uncle bought a GLX (or maybe it was a GLS?) hatchback in crappy light green as his last 'company' car way back in 1988 and it never once gave him any issues in the twelve years that he owned it. When he retired in 1990, it barely did any mileage though it was the car that I, aged 13yrs, drove on my own for the first time (he knew!) He traded it into the local Toyota dealer in 2000 against a brand new Yaris... they gave him £100. The thing was absolutely pristine, full history...

Part of me wishes he never got rid of it, part of me also wishes I'd had the sense to offer him £150 and run around in it!

Rare sight theses days, especially without tile grout and duct tape rear arches.

They are more expensive, yes, but if you spend enough time looking you can find good deals. And obviously you get your money back when you sell the car and get rid of the wheels.

As time goes on, and you get over 30, crappy old cars have a cool factor all of their own! Great.
