A mate emailed me this last night, said he was having a play on photoshop and to see what I thought of this; I have no intention of doing it at the moment, but I can decide whether it looks pretty good or a little bit garish! Any thoughts?

CDP said: Have you tried increasing the excess to £1000? My brother did that on his Chimera and reduced his price from £1600 to £600. So even if he had a shunt he'd have been no worse off. My insurance was the same, increased it from 250 to 500 excess and it knocked £250 off! Couldn't believe it. What have you done in the last pic OP?

Black mesh would look better. As would black or gunmetal grey standard sized wheels, in my humble opinion. Something like this:

This arrive from MX5 Parts today, no more feeling bad about leaving her out overnight to get soaked in our wonderfull Scottish climate. I dread to think how much of an idiot I must've looked trying to work out how to put it on...

Not mine, unfortunately. I witnessed a Mk1 MX-5 performing a nice drift in the wet last night. I'm sure it was accidental Hmmm, what can I do to get one past the wife? -without getting rid of the bike first....

St. Anger said: Keep an eye on that mate. The '5s paint is very soft and the cover can cause scratches, as I experienced, like this: It is possible to fix this again (see pic below) but the paint has no lacquer, so it might be a better option for you to fix any leaks in the roof, clear the drain points and properly seal and wax the paint work so you don't need to use the cover....

Good advice well noted, what did you find was the best way to dry it out? Mines doesn't quite fit on the washing line!

Quick update on progress so far. Took it to a mechanic who has worked on all our familys vehicles in the past and explained to him that I'd just bought this and because it has no service history/old recipts, it would give me peace of mind if he'd take it for a good once over and check everything is as it should be. He did so without any problems and put it through a mock MOT and some extra mechanical tests, he was very impressed with the results and said for a car of it's age there is nothing worth noting or in need of attention at all, other than a few minor spots of rust on the drivers side chassis leg and left front sill which I already knew about! (Bought it in the knowledge that one day I was going to need to get it welded up and sealed anyway) Been quoted £250 by a local trusted car welder for the full treatment (ie, rust completely cut out, new metal welded in and completely waxoyl'd) and will probably be booking it in for that in the near future! In the meantime though, I've been avidly exploring one of the few good things Scotland has to offer; the fantastic twisty B-Roads! 1000 miles after purchase last month and I honestly can't fault it - I'm still utterly smitten! Why not just paint the existing wheels and put on a set of decent tyres? Another: Nice wheels, but smaller would be better:

Set of winter tyres are on the cards when the weather deteriorates, also thought about painting the wheels myself, but I'm starting to think it's be a bit of a wasted effort because when the horrible winter weather lifts I intend to buy a nice set of 15's complete with decent tyres for the summer (if we can call it that!) months.

Another quick update, bought a can of black spray paint from a local parts shop for £3.50 and set about spraying the front grille; Pretty pleased with the results and IMO it's a much nicer and understated finish than the chrome as seen in previous pictures in this thread! While the grille was drying I decided to remove one of the front towing eyes in preperation for a purchase of a TRS tow strap, will update with how that goes when I get round to buying one.
