Indeed chaps, the real kick in the teeth was that I wanted it back on the road in time for the 6th anniversary last week and I'm not sure if its even going to be ready this month.

Still, head up and lets see what the guy says on Thursday.

Missed this the first time round , just read the whole thing , sad and heart-warming at the same time.

5.0 litre & 160 hp , not something we usually see in the same sentence.

Hope all goes to plan for you

Indeed, this is the race tuned model (it has dual exhausts), the standard model makes do with 150 bhp

Funny that this should pop back up this week. I just picked up dad's MG on Friday. Recognizing that my bodywork skills are essentially st, I just bit the bullet and paid a professional restorer to replace the rotted out rear wings and sills.

I can tell you it's worth the effort and expense. Every single penny. Stick with it.

Definitely, had I been more flush with cash I would have paid a mechanic to service the car myself, avoiding many months of pain :/

Excellent story.

My dad died when I was 13 so never quite got to this stage which I am gutted about.

Glad it's all working out for you. If it doesn't get fixed, leave it til you get more money to throw at it. There's no rush :-)

Good luck!

I know not to rush but I just want to get it on the road, got a plan formed in my mind about a long drive with some decent cigars and a particular CD playing smile

So yesterday was the first time I've started the Lincoln in just under a year \o/

Its still got some issues - vacuum leaks, noisy power steering pump but its in one piece once again.

I've booked it in for an MOT tomorrow, I know it needs a new headlight bulb, a rubber exhaust mount but apart from that its ready.

At least I think it is....

Good Luck with the MOT!

Been following your story.

Got my Dad's tools, some from his war service in the REME.
When I pick one of them up, it always makes me stop and think of him.

Well I got her to the station!

Issues raised on the drive:

Vacuum leaks causing some surging when coasting,
Brake light came on again!
Power steering pump is noisy! UK roads
UK roads are SMALL

Have you checked the one way valve between the servo and manifold as the brake/vac leak may be linked. Not familiar with how the Lincoln is set up, obviously.

Is the brake fluid level staying constant?

I used to have a ford LTD of a similar age as your town car.

Basically the same vehicle except mine had the 5.8 Windsor and was an ex cop car, so had no leather or anything fancy like that.

Something very assuring about the way they drive though... like a big solid floaty cloud.
