Indeed we're exploring that option.

@Lucifer interesting, that's the first time I've heard that.

I've had a fair few and it is usually rust-coloured sooner rather than later. My last Golf GTI was fairly rust-coloured too - the overflow tank is usually too brown to even see the level.

Loving the thread - my Caprice was 5.0 and 130hp so your Lincoln is positively high performance in comparison!
Keep the updates coming, your old man would have been proud smile

Parts update -

Y Pipe is being made by pipecraft as we speak

New ARP headbolts are being delivered, technically the engine uses non stretch bolts but the ones in the car are original so might as well replace them. I've also ordered a new o2 sensor (£60...) and a new thermostat (£6!) which should arrive today.

This brings the total parts costs to....£776

Exhaust Headers 10
Cylinder heads and camshaft 100
Computer, Mass Air sensor, 80
Injectors, inlet manifold, throttle body 90
Intake spacer kit 40
cylinder head gasket kit, water pump gasket, timing cover gasket 200
Head bolts 57
o2 sensor 67
thermostat 6
Y Pipe 96
Exhaust manifold bolts and washers, coolant hose, lambda sensor bungs 30

How did I miss this thread the first time around????

Great story OP smile

After having read the thread you mentioned the temperature sender and the crack in the manifold, the reason it started getting tighter is because it will have been an NPT thread, the T meaning tapered.

Love these old land yachts, I definitely think a bit of subtle hot rodding needs to be done.

Parts update:

New Y Pipe from Pipecraft has been picked up by Chris - it looks a lot better than the pipe that came from the Lincoln!

Update from Thursday:

The block and heater matrix is fully flushed and free of brown crud! Which just leaves the radiator to clean.

Chris has also spent time ge greasing the engine and the engine bay (it looks wet due to the wd40 to protect the mating surfaces. The image isn't the best but I'll get some daylight shots tomorrow:

If that is a small hole?

I DIY fixed something similar with those low temp ally welding rods they sell at car shows.
Was on my bike rocker cover.
Was rather impressed by it.
