We'll see how things go but might as well keep it to this thread for now.

Currently looking at overhauling the brake system after yesterdays fire smile

Things to sort out and/or replace:

Remove stupid v8 badges (yes two of them!) from rear!
Brake discs
Brake pads
Oil and filter
Thermostat
Temperature sensor
Brake fluid
Master/Slave brake cylinders
Brake lines
Find the source of whatever is loose and causing a clanking noise on the os/r
Transmission fluid change and filter
Recondition wheels
Respray (currently three colours white, green and matt black)
Replace trim

"Needs some suspension work and shocks. Brakes, brake pads,
lining, steering box, transmission, rear-end.
Dr. Peter Venkman: How much?
Dr Ray Stantz: Only $4800.
[Venkman looks shocked]
Dr Ray Stantz: Also new rings, mufflers, a little wiring."

hehe

So not much then!

So, you may be wondering why I haven't been updating this thread as of late, the reason being is I tried to 'fix' something and broke the car in a fairly significant way.

As mentioned I did indeed buy a whole bunch of new parts to start bringing the Lincoln back in to line, one of which was a coolant temperature sensor. A £7 part that would through my own stupidity, put me back 4 months. Now, I blame myself (as it was my fault) but I still can't quite understand it, the CTS is a simple screw in affair and from might point of view it should screw in till its flush (amiright fellas?), which I did.

Or at least attempted to do, as it was getting progressively more and more difficult (probably a sign there lads) to turn it. Eventually I gave up and thought turning the engine over would show if it was tight enough,

As the engine cranked into life, coolant started to piss out of near the CTS "Ah" I thought "must not be tight enough", so more tightening required. Starting the car once again and the leak is still there, but much worse, confused I started looking around the area to see if I could find the source.

And what do my eyes see? A one inch hairline crack in the lower inlet manifold >_<

"Oh bother" said I, soon followed by "what a pity"

It's taken me a long, long time to source the parts and remove everything connected to the lower manifold (which appears to be literally EVERYTHING), but it has been replaced and I'm now in the process of putting it back together.

I still have to replace the passenger side disk and pads after they set themselves on fire and change the water pump but I am getting closer to being able to drive it once again.

I've owned the Lincoln for 10 months and I've driven it only once in that time, you can guess that I am looking forward to being able to start it up once again.

Ask and you shall receive smile

This is with the upper manifold off, still a lot of parts to remove:

A boot full of spare parts and rubbish, ah project cars wink

Lower inlet manifold removed revealing oil sludge and a lot of gasket to scrape:

A closer look:

Mmmm sludge:

The offending lower manifold removed and ready to go to the scrap yard:

Removing the fan shroud in preparation for changing the water pump:

Rusty pump!

Cleaned second hand lower inlet manifold:

Scraped, cleaned and with new gaskets on:

Lower manifold painted and installed, valve covers also painted and with new gaskets:

The main problem is remembering how everything goes back together >_<

Gentlemen, I've wussed out and hired a mechanic to get the car up and running, I have done a lot of work over the last 6 months but I have reached the point where I just want the thing on the road.

He's made some great progress and hopefully today should be the first time it gets started up!

Hopefully......

It's strange, I can't shake this odd combination of excitement and worry about what is going to happen. Will it start? Will it leak everywhere due to my attempts at repair?

So here I sit at work, glancing at my phone every second and wait for the call....

Totally forgot about this thread. Bad to hear about your woes, but great to hear it'll be on the road again soon!

Any plans to break it in? (A big road trip sounds in order!)
Yes, but not sure may take it up to Birmingham for an event I am doing but will see how things are.

So, here we are the car started! Happy days! Then the mechanic found that there was water pouring out of the exhaust >_<

It was still running ok when he turned it off, but suspects that I've got some of the hoses mixed up, luckily the engines are quite tough so hopefully we will see if he can sort the problem on thursday.

I am now off to order a new oil filter, lower manifold gaskets and get some more oil.

When will this saga end?

Indeed chaps, the real kick in the teeth was that I wanted it back on the road in time for the 6th anniversary last week and I'm not sure if its even going to be ready this month.

Still, head up and lets see what the guy says on Thursday.

Indeed, this is the race tuned model (it has dual exhausts), the standard model makes do with 150 bhp

Definitely, had I been more flush with cash I would have paid a mechanic to service the car myself, avoiding many months of pain :/

I know not to rush but I just want to get it on the road, got a plan formed in my mind about a long drive with some decent cigars and a particular CD playing smile
