Long overdue some pictures!

The garage have half the car done, apparently getting the rear springs back on was a complete ball ache.

Pitman arm that refused to come off and broke two removal tools - its in ok condition so staying on for now

Quick under carriage shot:

Untouched passenger front:

Wheels sanded and scrubbed:

Probably the best of the bunch, I'm replacing the tyres this month:

Hoping to have more snaps of the car this week.

Once this is done, then its time for some body work and then its MOT time.

Take your steering box to a tractor/farm workshop. They remove pitman arms regularly and have the correct hydraulic equipment to get the job done.

I always take land rover steering boxes to them rather than messing around for hours with hammers and pullers.

As you can see the Lincoln is well in need of some rust protection - anyone know of a decent specialist in Southend/Essex area?

It feels like an age since I last saw the town car, its still in the workshop and time is running short. Unimpressed at the lack of action by the garage tbh, now running on 6 weeks.

Hopefully the lack of haste will translate into a reduced bill at the end, but I need to get this car ready for my stag do on the 8th July.

Huzzah, the car is back with me and the suspension feels great! It sits a lot higher now, which goes to show how shagged the old set was.

Current item is to replace the broken rear center reflectors (more complex than it looks and sort out the rust on the front passenger fender and rear driver panel.

Heads down for next weekend!

Sadly the mechanics phone got destroyed so no in progress stuff frown

To replace the center light reflectors I imported a new section from the USA and am now in the progress of taking the best bits off both and making one usable unit. I need to carry over the frankly awful rear indicators for now but will retain the original unmarked strip in case I find something that is more subtle in the future:

I still can't deciede what to do with the tyres, I can get whitewalls for £84 but its from an unknown manufacturer (Maxxis?), or I could get non whitewall premium tyres for the same price (Pirelli etc).

Suggestions?

Maxxis is well known for motorcycle tires. I'd say you have gone this far to reach for the 80s glory days, you should take it all the way and bask in the glory.

Next question, the car is currently fitted with 215/75/R15 tyres, but the internet says the car should have 215/70/R15 as standard.

What should I fit?

Id go with original specs if your going to take it back to original. Hopefully those high profile tires are still available.

The ones you have are just a bit higher than stock. Not sure why someone would do that.

This makes me want a g body.

Try & avoid van tyres if you can. They have more plies and a stiffer sidewall and will remove some of the lovely floatyness from the ride.

Maxxis are a perfectly good manufacturer, very well known in off road circles and especially for high end MTB and MX stuff. It would seem a shame to forgo the joys of a decent whitewall tyre!

In typical fashion the car tyres are coming from Germany and are due to arrive the day of the stag do, clock is ticking!

I spent some time this morning bodging some paint work, sanded it down, primed with Hammerite and then applied some Matt black paint. Concourse it is not, but it looks passable from a distance which is all that's needed for now, I'll get it all properly seen to next year.

We're dangerously close to having the first stage of the recovery, I'd like to do a shake down run before the stag do but I don't think I'm going to get the time to do it.

No pressure.
