Best bet would probably be 205gtidrivers, you might find one at the Peugeot Specialist in a village in Leicester (not naming them cos I don't want to promote them) but I would steer clear of them entirely unless you like being ripped off.

Any recommendations as to where to get some of the work done?

Wanted to PM but it's not working at the moment.

What work were you looking to get done?

Rear axle needs looking at (rubbing wheel). Some welding on the sills to start with. Got quoted £350 for rear beam, if that is what needs to be done.

Edit to add the full list

Want to get done asap:
Make good the rust on OSF inner wing
Make good the sill rust by doors and rear of drivers side sill
Locking wheel nuts removed/replaced
Replace Rocker Cover Gasket and see if that sorts the oil leak
Replace lower exhaust stud
Starter motor solenoid sticking - unstick or replace
Boot Seal - needs to be watertight/replace if need be
Oil filler mended
Service

Need more info on:
Exhaust manifold cracked (cyl. 1 and 4) - How much will this cost to put right and is there a sealant that could be used as a temporary measure just while I put some funds together.
Rear Axle (wheel rubbing) - Seems to me like this needs doing urgently but was hoping it could wait a couple of months.

Parts needed:
Oil breather pipe breathing to atmosophere - new pipe
Standard air intake pipe missing / Air flow meter electrical connector insecure - replacement air pipes, box, etc.
Rear View Mirror
Gear knob

The following I think can wait:
Bonnet catch and cable missing
Bare wires at rear of headlights (from previously fitted spotlights)
Horn not working properly (more of a squeek)

Thanks,

Pest

Nope, a common problem. Best to replace with another 2nd hand one or a custom 4-2-1 jobbie.

Longer you leave the worst it will get, and potentially more expensive. If you're not driving it then leave it.
If you can just swap for a refurbed one. An easy swap although best with another pair of hands as they weigh loads. Factor in a pair of sandwich mounts as well as they've probably had it too.

I think Anthony has sorted you out on 205gtidrivers now, you'll find loads of good stuff over there.

Certainly got plenty to keep you busy for some time there fella!
I'll echo what Simes said... I wouldn't use it too much with the rear beam gone to the extent that the tyre is rubbing on the body.
I'm actually in the midst of replacing mine at the moment. Although there wasn't anything obviously wrong with the old one, the bearings on one side have turned out to have seen better days and the shaft on that side is quite well pitted.
More of a problem is the amount of rust that I've uncovered on a car that has no outward signs of any rust at all... I hate to say it but yours could be a bit of a mess underneath. Worth doing though, cracking little cars!

Just working through the forum over there at the moment. It's a lot to wade through so am just getting familiar with it first. Didn't get any feedback from the garage about bad rust problems but will take it for a second opinion when I get it back.

Thanks, there's a wealth of info on there. Looked through a few a few threads on rear beams, very useful.

Oh, that's a bit crap, what's wrong with it and who have you taken it to?

I was going up to Constella to get a few bits (air filter, etc.) and have them give it a once over to give me an idea of what needs to be done. As it was booked in to check it over it seemed the easiest option. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time on my hands at the moment, I'd have enjoyed having a go at more of the issues myself.

Had the MR2 out all weekend and it is positively refined in comparison laugh

Update...

Right well had the car back for a couple of days now and I've been told the rear arches were bent in by something heavy knocking around in the boot. So fortunately not the rear axle on closer inspection. So that's all good now. Locking wheel nuts removed and replaced. Service done. Rocker gasket done. Oil leak possibly fixed but need to have a better look. Stick on rear view mirror removed and replaced with original. Rear hatch trim on (after Carl at CG cars fixed the tube back to the water jet smile Thanks). New rear hatch rubber seal so it's now not leaking woohoo never did like the pond in the back!

Went to fix the parcel shelf but it has male bits as well as the fixings so need to buy new fixings. Tried spray painting the parcel shelf black but the paint wouldn't stick so it's now darkish grey. Still looks better than before!

And new rubber on the front (Bravarius 2s). Not exactly a performance tyre but better than the almost illegal ones that were on it before.

The problem with the poor starting is still ongoing. Carl at CG had a good look over it and but wouldn't take my money until he knows what the problem is. The issue with an intermittent fault of course is that it doesn't play up when you need it to. This is of course unlike the tyre place that suggested very kindly to replacing the battery at a 10% discounted cost, for only £96 and that would fix the issue.

Odd thing I have noticed is that it seems I can only have either the stereo or the heater/fan working and the car chooses for me.

To do today:

Clean engine bay
Check out the rear water pump
Have a look at the radio wiring
Possibly look at replacing the ignition coil

Buy brackets for parcel shelf, rear quarter trim and new water pump possibly.

Should be a spiffing day!

Interesting read.

Having owned a 306 Gti-6, but now with a preference for something a bit older, I really want a 205. Kind of like a Mix of my old Mk1 MX5 and my GTi-6.

Having seen a few of the 205's with GTI-6 engines in, they must be incredible, as a standard 06 Gti-6 is an absolutle flying machine, much more so than its 'stats' would suggest.

I like the 205's as they seem to have a similar following and parts/upgrades availability as the MX5.

Same amount of rust too!

Thanks, glad it's of some use.

Got the replacement motor for the rear water jet. Seems to be a blockage though so it's not working, at least it's in the end bit though so should be able to sort quite easily.

Got a new gaiter for the gearstick today. They are really stuck on... clips, staples, the lot. Couldn't get the gear knob off anyway and didn't want to start messing with the stick until I knew what I was doing so went for the easy job of cleaning the seats with Autoglym interior shampoo. I can report back it's pretty good biggrin

Heater fan has stopped working for what seems for good frown

Hey, glad you're getting on ok with it. It's good news about the beam. Good luck finding the fittings for the parcel shelf, most have broken over the years and I seem to remember they are different between phase 1 & 2 cars. The heater will be the rheostat packed up. Look up in the passenger footwell and there is a small black box with a plug in it, it's held in with 2 screws, that's normally the main culprit.

I think I'm going to have to sell my Mi16, never thought the day would come but the Monaro has just presented me with a dead clutch and numerous other bits that are gonna cost around £1200 so it looks like it's time. Suppose it will be worth it in the end.

Edited to add, the gearknob just pulls off, I found twisting it at the same time helps. Word of warning though, when it comes free you are likely to punch yourself in the face with it so have a box of tissues handy to stem the blood flow from your nose.

Hoping I've sourced the parcel shelf brackets on ebay, but now you've said that I'm concerned they won't fit! A little bit of fettling though should see it right hopefully.

Thanks for the info on the heater. Will have a dig around next week. Sorry to hear you're moving on, never know you might miss it too much and be back browsing the classifieds in the New Year.

Yes I had the feeling the gear knob might result in an accident. May get some unsuspecting lodger to do it (if he doesn't read this first hehewavey ).

If you want to test the rheostat I can pull mine out the car to swap over to make sure. Can't remember the price exactly but I'm sure ECP wanted around £50 for new one. Alternatively if it turns out to be the motor I beleive I have a spare lying around somewhere.

As for the gearknob, the lodger thing is a great idea, why have a black eye if you can let someone else take it instead.
