If you want to test the rheostat I can pull mine out the car to swap over to make sure. Can't remember the price exactly but I'm sure ECP wanted around £50 for new one. Alternatively if it turns out to be the motor I beleive I have a spare lying around somewhere.

As for the gearknob, the lodger thing is a great idea, why have a black eye if you can let someone else take it instead.
Sounds good, I'm off Friday and Saturday so could meet up then?

I'm working Friday and also Saturday until 12.30, if you want to pop over Sat afternoon that should be ok as I'll be at home doing the clutch on the Monaro. I'll pm you my mobile number.

Thanks to RenPug I managed to test with a working rheostat and that was the issue. New one arrived yesterday from Peugeot Parts Specialists in West Yorks, for a good price too. Fitting today. Unfortunately the radiator has stopped working now so it's been overheating; hot engine and freezing inside!

Hoping it's just the thermostat and my housemate has one lying around from his Volvo that may do the job.

ETA - It's not got any coolant left, so as it was serviced recently can only assume it's leaking frown
