Howdy folks, thought I'd finally get around to sharing my current car with you lovely folks...
Picked it up at the end of January this year. It's a lovely car to cover a 40 mile each way commute round the M25 - nice comfy heated leather seats and just about enough poke to make overtaking not an issue.
Fuel economy is appalling and the local dealer is a bit rubbish, so will be casting around to find a better one soon.
Love the 19 inch alloys!
Do like their DAB and satnav, v.easy to use. (Bad timing on the song playing mind...)

What sort of MPG are you getting then? I'm not exactly au fait with this model of Astra, I'd have thought high 30s on the kind of runs you do?

lol, good call on the MPG. Usually 35mpg. If I drive like a granny I can get to 40mpg if there's no stop/start traffic on the road. City driving is 25-30mpg.
The problem is VX insist it should do 50.4mpg on the extra urban cycle. Now I'm not naive enough to believe that, but I had figured on being able to get 40mpg with minimal effort. (My Mk5 Golf used to do about 10-15% under official under 'normal' circumstances, and whenever I wanted to I could hit VW's advertised figures if I was careful.)

The problem is they've left a lot of the hifi controls on there, but when you have an iPod you hardly use any of them as it's all done through the central circular thingamabob and the steering wheel controls. same for the satnav as well. The phone I usually do entirely by voice and steering wheel controls.
I tend to think if you took off the control wheel and the Radio/iPod/Satnav/Phone buttons (left hand stack) your left with not far off what current BMW's have, just not in such a minimalist configuration.
(My Golf was obviously a lot less busy, but I actually prefer this - I like having all the toys on a car.)

It's ex-demo, hence the alloys. Probably won't go that low profile again in a hurry as you do feel it sometimes, not to mention the price of tyres!
Not sure I follow the church analagy but I've no issues with the visibility. The A pillars aren't great but that seems to be par for the course these days.

Smart piece of kit, parked behind a new Astra earlier, handsome looking thing, quite fancy a poke about it one, looked at the pre-facelift Corsa and hated the interior... What's with the growing fad for 'Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man' wipers? My Mum's Peugeot 308 has them, something I used to associate with MPV things like the Chrysler Grand Voyager... How many miles has it done? maybe it'll begin to improve with age?

When the three door comes out it will have 20" wheels as a factory option!!I think the 1.6 is around 180bhp, making it currently the most powerful in this shape Astra. I'm guessing its a detuned corsa vxr lump. So not too surprised by the wheel size.
I did think this small engine + turbo malarkey was meant to be good for mpg's. I suppose it's equivalent in power to the old 2.5 v6 they used in vectras which would get around 25-30mpg normally.

In a perfect world, assuming I was going to stay with VX, I'd have a 2.0TDi GTC, with my local VW dealership looking after it. (The folk at VW always treated me very well. Which isn't to say they were ever cheap, just that I never felt like they were charging me over the odds, or didn't know what they were doing.)
As it is I shall probably try and keep this for another 3-5 years depending on depreciation, wear and tear and my personal situation.
After that I'll almost certainly be going back to 2.0TDi world, be that a 1-Series, a Scirrocco or possibly a Golf or A3. (If Audi ever get round to sorting out the ICE for the A3 - how far behind are they now?!?)
