I really enjoy doing it, and without having a car to tinker with at the weekend I'd actually have absolutely nothing to do! And I've no idea what long term plans are for the car, but I don't intend on selling it any time soon and hopefully I can keep it forever as it costs me next to nothing to run/insure etc.

Hi p4cks - see from your list your replacing your waterpump... is that due to it failing or your just renewing ? Reason I ask is mine is failing so getting it replaced this week and wondered what you had been quoted for labour as a bit of a job to do apparently. Also where your getting your pump from, these two are on Euros but there is also this one on ebay which is cheaper, what one would you go for and why ? http://www.eurocarparts.com/water-pump-gaskethttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RENAULT-CLIO-MK1-WATER-P...Good job on the door pockets - gonna give mine a go this weekend, what did you do with the window buttons, cover them or take them out ? Keep up the good work! Thanks

I got the waterpump as a precaution as it is going to get a cambelt service soon and it's good practice to change it whilst down there. I've been quoted £160 for the cambelt and waterpump to be fitted (I got the parts myself from eBay) which is a very good price. I went to my normal garage and was told they wouldn't do it for anything under £500. It's a little bit of a bugger of a job by all accounts!

Yes I heard that its good pratice too but my cambelt was only done a 1000miles ago so just gettingthe waterpump replaced for now.
I have been quoated £80 labour for the waterpump....which isnt bad considering your £160 qoute.
Have you got a link to the waterpump you got off ebay please ?
Good job on the door pockets - gonna give mine a go this weekend, what did you do with the window buttons, cover them or take them out ?
Cheers

I don't have a link I'm afraid however I just searched for 'Clio Williams waterpump' and bought the cheapest one! The door pockets were removed from the doorcards and the switches were also taken out so I was able to spray the whole doorpocket without masking anything up. There are only about 5 or 6 torx screws holding the things on anyway and it was good to give the doorcards a wipe down whilst they are off.

p4cks said: quick pic taken this evening Looks brilliant, and I'm really enjoying the thread. My first car was a P-reg dark blue Clio (looks similar if you squint a bit) so I've always had a little soft spot. You've really got me hankering after a Willy.

Thanks chaps! Yeah I am a member still, I signed up in 2009 when I had my Clio Cup but I don't frequent there nowadays. I tend to keep it to WilliamsClio.co.uk as its more acute knowledge of the mk1

Absolutely fantastic, mega job, must only be a handful of examples out there in similar condition. I could not sell it now after all that hard work.

You got around to removing the doors yet? I attempted this weekend, need to go buy some new cutting discs for the angle grinder, as the door needs removing. Damn door pins.

Hi Simon - I don't intend on removing the doors any time soon. There is a little rust on each of the bottoms of them bit I think with the doorcards removed they could be done in situ

The car's now booked in for its cambelt and waterpump change on Friday. I'm also going to ask the mechanic to look at the oil leak which seems to spit a little bit of oil on to the underside of the bonnet as well as fit a new oil level sensor. I suspect the oil spitting could be attributed to something as small as the oil filler cap as it's not in the best condition.
The alloys are also going to be refurbished this week which will include the diamond cut rim and painted the correct shade of gold.
I also inquired about a new accelerator and brake pedal rubber which came out at an astonishing £28.28! I think I'll have another go at fitting the pattern part ones!
