2000 BMW E38 728i
Discussion
Right,
acquired this 2 weeks ago and was time to detail it. i'm already in love with the car and it's superb for the job....quiet, comfortable and relaxing to drive with more than reasonable poke once up to speed.
anyway....
i only had a day and a bit so not all the time in the world and no so no "during" photos (except for one) and it was an "exterior only" job the interior had already been cleaned a little and was tidy. i didn't need to do glass as only 1.5 weeks ago this was treated with gtechniq G1 on the front screen, and G3 on the side and rear screens.
right.... first thing first is before shots
first the wheels were cleaned with bilberry wheel cleaner, agitated with some brushes, tyres cleaned with surfex HD and then rinsed. then the wheels were cleaned again with just 1 dose of ironX.
then i used surfex HD in the door shuts, petrol flap etc
car was then washed with dodo juice supernatural shampoo
it was then thoroughly rinsed then washed again with ironX soap gel then rinsed and dried
then used tardis on the whole car and rinsed once more
car was then clayed with bilt hamber clay, and it was clear the car had never been clayed before....this was from less than 1/2 the bonnet.
i then cleaned all the plastic trim with surfex HD and then neat IPA
i got the rotary out and used a gtech wool pad with P1 polish (works VERY fast!!) as said, i didn't have all the time in the world so i quickly did what i could and finished with with their finishing pad. it got many of the defects out and there is only some minor swirl marks left, but nowhere near as much as before. i would guess at 70-80% defect removal.
the P1 residue was wiped off and given a neat IPA wipe down. once done, gtechniq C1 was applied to the paint. all plastics (except the mudguards....must get them done at some point!) were treated with gtechniq C4, as were the headlights.
tyres treated with monza car care smart gel.
i don't think i missed any products used but may have done!!
and now the after shots!
the red tint in the wheel is actually a reflection of a friends car!
plastic with C4 on it (this was really faded, it looks darker on one 1/2 because of yours truly making a shadow over it!)
any comments welcome and thanks for reading

What's the small pedal on the left handside of the footwell?
Possibly hand brake release as like on Mercs, although I didn't think BMW's used the same sort of system.Lovely car, and a nice transformation from when you first bought it. What are these cars like to run? Are parts and servicing expensive? I've always been interested in cars like these for a daily driver, but I always get the impression they'd be really expensive to run.

Whats the MPG like on this?? Looks lovely
I've done about 600 miles so far and averaged a shade over 30mpg. If you can peg them back to 70 it'll hit 35mpg on a run at that without any issues, maybe more. At 60 mine hits 39mpg. Around town more like 25 though. one more pic when the sun came out
