Have you thought about paying a couple of quid for an old 1970's number plate, not anything personalised just a bog standard one for a little finishing flourish??
hmmm i do have a bit of a thing for personal plates, but, the period correct plate would be an old w reg like :
XXX ###W
not really worth spending the money on in my humble, the plate that was originally on the car has been had away by one of the old owners & is still out there on something, the SIB plate is obviously a cheap irish plate, not the sort of thing i'd go for but it's on the car in the magazines it's been featured in so i figured it's now part of the cars history smile

I was thinking more along the lines of a 1972 or 73 plate, but I take your point about the car being associated with the plate you currently have

ah right, i see what you mean, the look is 74 onwards though (the g series impact bumper cars) though strictly speaking i guess you could say with the ducktail & impact bumpers it really looks like a 74 carrera 2.7 rather than the 3.0 SC it is.

i did almost buy A11 RSR a bit ago but that wouldn't have went on this one unfortunatly, i think i'd only really bother to change if a really nice none dating plate came up that meant something to me.

The orange would look great there lit up with a dark background. Gorgeous looking 911 you have, mine is a couple of years older, '78 SC with Sport Pack.

Oh God, there's too much car porn in this thread! I'm now addicted to 911's, like seriously addicted - I must have one. Why did I click on this thread?! I've never even looked at Readers' Cars before.

Cragswinter - your 993 was stunning but this 3.0 SC is something else. The ducktail spoiler, for me, was the way to go. It looks epic.

I also really like the story that Porsche Kendal provided you with the touch up stick in the goodybag - nice touches like that stick.

Glad I randomly found this thread and enjoy your beautiful car thumbup

cheers stiglet, nice to to the car popping up in the "what car have you been obsessing about today" thread as well!

a couple of things getting done over the xmas period as & when i get some apre time.....

1st things 1st, i've managed to get a stereo sourced for the car that i'm relatively happy with.

although it doesn't have DAB i figured that seeing as the switch over doesn't start until 2015 at the earliest it'll do for now. looks are subjective but ,ore than anything it has the features i want & the colours can be set to amber so at least it kind of fits in!

next big job is the seats, at present i have these:

they're great seats & really comfy but i fancied something a little more "race inspired" & i've always loved having buckets in my cars, so i've sorted out this pair:

now, whether i end up keeping the rears in or not (as i'm sure we all agree a rear cage in matching orange would look superb), for the time being i think i will. due to the fact they fold down to create a shelf they're handy for euro-hoons for putting extra bags, helmets etc on so, i managed to track down (after much faffing) the exact pascha fabric in black & silver grey that my car has:

the idea is to create a seat that looks like these:

these were done by tripe over on the impact bumper forum & are obviously in the houndstooth material that pre-dated my car but you get the idea. i'll be keeping the orig seats with the car so if the next owner wants to return them to tsandard they can, think it'll look good?

No worries, it definitely deserves to go there! smokin

Love the idea of the bucket seats - it will look great. As you say, you'll be keeping all the original parts anyway including the engine cover, seats and front lip so you won't be 'ruining' it, if that's your concern.

About the cage though, will this cause problems if you try to sell? Whilst I think it will look good and should have a positive affect on the handling, you can't really go back - can you?

re the cage stiglet, the idea if i go for it would be to get a replica of the old '74 rsr one. it's a lovely bit of kit that ties in to the old seat belt mounting points.

it is welded in, but only on the feet that around the rear wheel arches. i guess these could be ground out after if it needed removing but yes it all does sound a bit drastic.

it's a flip up as yes a rear cage in orange would look good but then how good would the interior look with the buckets re-trimmed to match in pascha?! biggrin

great excuse to get the car out & go for a blast eh? just don't think about the cost (it helps if i keep repeating that all the way through these viewings!).

then back to a mates house who unbeleivably still hadn't seen the car as we've both been so busy at work.

great seeing the two cars together, nicks is a 997 turbo tip, the gen 1 car (that still has the proper engine!) & believe me, it is seriously quick. i've driven it hard a few times & the way it can shift you down the road beggars belief. of course it feels less "911" than my car, but thats not to say its a bad thing, just different.

i'm determined that my next car will be a modern one (after the last two being air cooled pork) but even a turbo like nicks, just does not attract any attention next to the old girl!

Really?! Well I've got to be honest I'm more interested in why she still isn't?!

(to anyone who doesn't know what I do for a living this must look pretty strange!)

But on the subject of the car, I'm guessing when you seen it it was the weekend it went to Porsche Kendal for the new 911 launch as I think it was the only time it's ever been there?

If you ever want a proper look around mate feel free to give me a shout, as I'm sure you can imagine I can talk old 911s all day long smile

that looks stunning, that colour is great. i've just dipped into the same territory, a 1981 204bhp SC, have posted my tale in readers cars as well. i loved your tale of getting it home, my trip was rather less fortunate.

enjoy!
