BMW E36 M3 Evo
Discussion
a complete pain in the ass to get the 8.5j wheels to fit with the HSD coilovers.
Possibly a bit more research was required...
fittes studs to the front hubs to aid wheel changing etc.
now also have 30mm spacers on each side
I have had to lift the front end to get the tyres clear of the springs
I can't drive the car to settle the suspension currently as it has no seats but I assume it will get a bit more even after.
Not ideal currently but I'm sure I will get it to work

Looks like allot of good progress mate.
Tend to agree with the previous post. That wheel setup doesn't look right. What is the wheel offset specification and what width of spacer are you running on each side? Presumably you are hitting the spring perch of the coilover without the spacers in place, hence raising the right height?
I suspect with the current setup handling might take a turn for the worst.
Also raises suspicion to our plans to run the RC042 8.5J rim setup all around. That's a +40 offset which is likely to exhibit similar clearance issues at the front in the 328. More reading and measuring required....
Let me know if you need any help.

yer, I have fked up with the wheels...
basically, the new wheels I have just got have a larger backspace.
10mm is the differance
note to self - don't assume...
I now have 4x 235/45 R888's and need to decide what to do.
My thinking is to just put the new R888's on to my green wheels which are the original ones that came with the E36 Evo.
7.5J and 8.5J
The tyres coming off the green wheels are Federal FZ-201's and are all 235/45's

The green wheels are: BMW Style 39
Front: 7.5j x17 ET 41
Rear: 8.5j x17 ET 41
The black ones are: BMW Style 68
8.5J x17 ET 50
From the E46
there is no way I can make them fit the front of the E36. I have always run with 20mm spacers on the green wheels but don't want to go any more.
I'm currently putting the R888's on to the green wheels but the tyre fitter is having issues breaking the bead on the Federals
on a plus side, I have finished striping weight out of the back and have refitted the seats etc.
hopefully I will be ready for a test run on Monday (if the tyres ever come off the rims).

I have fitted the wheels back on now and put the spring rate/ride height back to where it was.
I may need to go up a bit on the front but can't tell until I do some hard cornering
Just need to tax it so I can have a drive - wait for May however as I don't want to give the DVLA more money than I have to

I have booked Donington for the 19th so taxed the car today ready for a bit of running in etc.
Just got back from a couple of weeks in the Highlands which was fantastic. A few pictures (not of the M3 however..
The "Skyfall" shot
May have changed my mind on the EU vote....
The only problem is that I spent 15 minutes with the BiB on the A85 and may be getting a few points and a fine (if I'm lucky)

Looking good. You didn't get let off then?
no, it was a young female police officer being trained so everything was by the book. I think I'm fked.May have to hold off insuring the M3 for a bit if the premium comes up. This is the trouble with having 3 cars to insure.
Donington tonight (Thursday) - 5 to 8
It was a bit wet but still fun.
First time I have used the R888's and with it being wet, decided to take it easy. I was very impressed and think they are better in the wet than my road tyres (Continental Sport Contact).
I guess if there was standing water, it may be another story.
Lots of mice cars at Donington in the evening, some brave drivers too
Only one crash (Caterham in to the pit wall) but may spins (not me this time).
Just need to give the car the once over now and see if I can sort out the rough idle. It is down on power for sure. Hopefully it is something simple like the MAF.
Anglesey is just a few weeks away
