Greeno's Mk5 Fiesta Zetec-S

great choice mate the ZS is a massively underated car, i love them (owned 3) lol. People claim they are underpowered but you dont need a lot more power to have fun. Silvertops are just as good as the later SE engines (always found they pulled better imo). 150bhp for the 1.6 is very achievable, ss4, full system with remap will see around this figure. but dont go chasing figures just enjoy the car they are a right laugh. Sign up on ZSOC its a great forum with loads of knowledge and a friendly bunch

Why are you arguing over a few BHP!? After 10 years if it's still got anywhere near quoted figures when it was new you'd be laughing!!!
That's Top Gear sensationalism. Most post 90's cars don't suffer like the old carburettor or mechanical injection system equipped models. If anything, it should be a lot looser and free-revving than when it was new.

Well parkers put it at 101bhp, and ford listed it as a 100bhp engine, think 105 is just owners being a tad optimistic.
Most of these standard dyno at around 105 - 110bhp they are underrated at the factory my mate had a mint completely stock example and it dynod at 110bhp at a respected rolling road. Thanks for all the replies. Definitely enjoying it as it is. Stripping it was a great idea IMO. Just love the noise of it to be fair. Like I said, it's something I can insure and something that I hope will go fairly well on track, for a beginner anyway. Only problem is, I'm off home for Xmas now, so nothing will be changing until mid January!

Looks smart mate, I'm a big fan on Zetec-S' and own an imperial blue one myself! Are you on ZSOC?
Yeah, been on ZSOC for over a year now, was lurking for the first 12-13months, just finding out specs and more info etc on them. I'm Kerbing on there. Will hopefully have more to add to this thread in the coming months!Greeno91 said:

You hit the nail on the head there, its what they are all about! I had my 1st one stripped, still got the cage that was going in it as well, not sold it as im sure i'll have another. they are a good track car base, although they do lack on the straights, it teaches you to carry speed in the bends, at no point did i feel slow in mine, came past a lot of faster stuff. Just take your time modding it, plenty rush it, paying too much for average parts because they want it now. If you shop around and keep your eye out on ebay you can modify these cheaply

+1000... it's so boring when people claim that a car will be down on power as it's 10+ years old.. and it all comes from Top Gear. Too many people take that programme seriously. If it's been looked after and maintained as it should be, there is no reason why it won't still be producing full power. If anything, it should be a lot looser and free-revving than when it was new.
