Bit of an update.....
Some paint has been done....and the rest of the car is being done tomorrow (Friday)!!!
What Ben had done so far is simply stunning....keep in mind this is a direct gloss 2k paint job with no clear coat....there is such minimal orange peel it is better than most high end paint finishes on Bentley's etc!
Bonnet, doors and bumpers have had 5 coats of paint....so this has probably helped masses but either way he is a serious master when it comes to spraying. The rest of the car will be getting the same level of paint....
He has been having a few issues though due to the waxes etc....now before I started stripping it the car had a very very strong G101 strip wash down with the pressure washer cranked up to 120 degrees C! Ben has prep wiped it....hit it with some evil tar and glue remover and done a washing up liquid wet sand and he has still had some major issues with imperfections appearing in the wet paint!!
Its not like he doesn't know what he is doing either (he has been doing this for a while now!!)....just goes to prove carnuba wax is a shed load stronger than you would ever imagine!
Anhooooooo the photos.....I think you will agree the gloss already on the bumpers and the bonnet is simply stunning...wait till I wet sand it down and jewel the paint to perfection!!

Well today was the day....Pugly was in the booth and being painted....not with out her issues.
Due to all the wonderful waxes and potions we use on our cars when detailing "silicone'ing" has been an massive problem for Ben, in his 20 years in the trade he has never come across a case so bad....and neither has his brother and he has 10 years on Ben!!!
Water based paints dont suffer anywhere as badly as old school single stage 2k paints.
On Saturday Ben tested the front wing with some XL Pro rattle can primer and it all vent horrid so he couldn't risk starting to paint it and it all going s**tty, so he has ordered some water base sealer (which is designed to kill silicone's) it got 2 coats of that followed by a 3 coats of white......now that its all properly sealed down it was baked....then the proper top coat of the 2k Peugeot Alpine White was applied all 3 coats yes I typed that correctly 3 coats on top of all that other stuff, this is starting to sound like a Chip Foose paint job!!!
My view is you cant have enough paint on a car....and Ben agrees....the finishe he has got straight out of the gun is close to flawless....there are a few bits of dust here and there...but its completely orage peel free and stunning. Its going to be a brilliant base for me to fully wet sand and jewel the finish to that perfect finish.
Only issue is that its going to be better than they ever came out of the factory, but that was the goal!!
When Ben rolled her out I almost got emotional I honestly cant believe the work he has put in on her. She is a very special car to me for a few reasons so it means a lot when someone puts care and effort into her for me.
Here are the photos......

I'm 31 now, but had a 1988 1.9 GTi when I was 18 - it was my first car, and I loved it to bits! It was a much better colour though ( ) - Graphite Grey
In all seriousness though, I am completely envious of the project - and you look like you're doing it 100% properly. Please do continue to post shed loads of photos - it's really great to see and I can't wait to see the finished result

Don't worry I will be posting up photos of the rebuild of her.
I am sure you will see her at a PH Sunday service soon
Well the wonderful weather today....managed to give the A6 a wash and hoover this morning then when to pick up a friend of ours from LHR T5. Finally got back home at about 1:30pm, so got changed and straight out to the garage to work on Pugly.
Might not look like much got done but useful progress....drivers door is now back in a functioning state door handle and lock installed, really big faf of a job to reconnect up the door handle to the actually mechanism....why oh why do these things come apart so easy but putting them back together is a byatch of a job....mind you could be because it was before Christmas when I took it all to bits!!
Also got the drivers window installed again...again same problems encountered...trying to remember how it all went back....oh and the added bonus of having to put back parts I didn't remove (Ben removed the window regulator)....got there in the end though!
So some photos...
First 2....forgot I took these on the day we picked Pugly back up from Ben's workshop...
Photos of the progress so far.....
Applied a very special decal that came from France (got 4 more as spares )
Refurbished rear wiper arm, nut and spacer...
Front wiper motor fitted....
More updates tomorrow

Well got loads done today!
All the windows are now in all door and window seals are in place and even had time to put the stainless sill plates back on as well! (no photos of this) Adjusted the doors so the shut and line up absolutely mint now...and the drivers door is spot on now it has the new hinges. Put the wing mirrors back on too
Proceeded round the front of the car and installed the new indicators and brand spankers Valeo headlights put the rubber bump stops on the bonnet to so that is sits where it should do. Aligned the indicators up spot on so that they sit in the holes properly (unlike the old ones)
Really is looking like my little 205 again now next job will be fit the rad and all that gubbins......

....quick update no photos though.
Had a st day at work and couldn't be arsed to go to the gym and train so got changed and went out to the garage for some therapy
Didn't really do too much but fixed the worrying electrical gremlins that seemed to be apparent on Sunday. Seems on a 205 all the earth points are at the sides of the headlights on large blocks...i neglected to remove them on the strip down... and Ben forgot to mask them....so i got them off and let them soak in thinners for 10 mins to help soften up the paint....then with a small flat blade screw driver scraped off the paint.
This got me back to metal but I wanted to make sure they were the best the could be so put them in some AutoSmart Ali Shine..being acid based its ideal for removing rust....and i wasnt wrong...after 10 mins and a scrub with an old toothbrush rinsed them off and boy oh boy like new....so bolted them on the car and connected them up battery in place and hey presto everything is working again!
