Talk2Dave said: Amazing car, a honda elise and a euro tour is deffinitely on my list. Where does all the luggage go? Is the boot still usable after the conversion? I always go away with the co-pilot, but she's very, very good and not one for carrying 15 pairs of shoes etc. We use sailing bags, which compress nicely in the boot and allow for plenty of clothes. We got married on the last trip, out in the Dolomites and managed to take enough clothes for 12 nights away. minus wedding suit and dress I might add. I also have a fair sized tool kit which always comes with me too, and I manage to put the roof behind the seats. As you say, an Elise and a road trip go hand in hand

Lovely thing.
Do you have an open cone filter on the k20?, (the induction noise is immense btw if you haven't)
Also a kpro or k100 ecu is a must.

what a lovely car. just the right spec without going too far, beautiful.
really pushes all the right buttons for me, that said, how strong is the temptation to just pop an 'ickle bitty supercharger on there for fun? For me, that would be the icing on the cake.

I don't know if its the videos of blasting through the mountain roads of europe or the vtec powered Lotus but I love it!! So much so I now want one, badly! Unfortunately an impending wedding, need for a bigger house and a recession mean I'll probably have to wait but the seed has been sown!
How much does the vtec conversion cost may I ask? Coupled to that what sort of costs are you looking at to S/C it? Looking at Elise S1 in the classifieds it seems they start around 8k and even for that they don't look at all shabby.
Having a had a MINI Cooper S I absolutely adore that noise, much more than that of a turbo. The MINI was great but as a weekend toy FWD is a no no as far as I'm concerned.

Hi Maty, The Honda conversion costs depend on who you or how you convert it. There are one or two diy kits available, but I've seen one of them and the quality is shocking! The main converters are Essex Autosport or Maidstone Sports cars, will charge in the region of £9k, for the basic set up, but you need things such as a baffled sump, nimbus heat sheilding etc. If you regularly go on track an oil cooler is advisable. Your best off buying a pre-converted car, as I did with this one, but I actually paid for my old Series 2 Elise to be converted in 2006, that cost me £11k for all the trimmings. I have no intention of supercharging the car, as I love the raw nature of the N/A set up and adding a supercharger seems to remove the VTEC howl. If you wanted to add a supercharger I think the additional costs are around £3k-£4k, for a jackson supercharger, injectors & a additional fuel pump. There are also some charge cooled cars now. Running costs. Well this car was one of the first Honda cars made, so the kit was in its infancy. When I bought the car it had done very few miles and as I did more track days and road miles, I gradually found issues. Over the years I've gradually sorted these out, but upgrading the conversion parts with the newer spec parts. The car now runs a full 2010 spec kit though so the issues are sorted. Annual running costs are around £2k-£2.5k I'd say, but that includes oil changes every 3-4k, a new set of brake pads alround, 1 pair of fronts and 2 pairs of rears based upon 20k pa. That's about 6-7 track days a year and the rest is Euro trips and blats.

Are there any further plans for more engine mods by the way? Cams/Throttle bodies and associated gubbins?

DanDC5 said: Are there any further plans for more engine mods by the way? Cams/Throttle bodies and associated gubbins? Well, I'm fitting an uprated Toda chain tensioner next week and would love to fit jdm cams, but the cams are £700! Have toy'd with second hand ones, but its difficult to get genuine jdm cams. I'd then need a remap, so I'd be looking at around £1300 all in. The cams are on the cards at some point, but just not right now, although they do sharpen the throttle response Oooohh throttle bodies, I'd love a set, but they're mega money. Definitely an option, but I also want to keep the engine as standard as possible, and it is my undersea ing that in order to extract the best performance from the, upping the rev limit and oil pump etc is required. All options, but to be honest, it's so quick under most circumstances, jdm cams would do me nicely.

I assume you're running a lighter flywheel aswell, with the jdm cams you'll notice a massive difference in how the car stays on vtec. One other option, go for the RBC (or RRC inlet from the FD2 saloon type r) inlet manifold, Tegiwa imports are doing them for about £260 at the moment, combined with the cams and map you'll get a nice gain in torque and power

Looking good mate, as others have said colour does look great, whether chasing it across the Birling Gap this morning, through Wales or of course the French and Italian mountains - happy days!

Dandc5, I have considered an rbc inlet, but I think you need to modify the Elise bulk head slightly. The price is good, so might get one, but I kind of want to leave the engine as own as possible for reliability purposes. Never say never though. Piers, Always a pleasure to drive in your company. Cracking blat yesterday
