You can get a Mercedes CLK55 AMG or a BMW 850 or a Audi S8 or as others said a BMW E46 M3 for under 10k.

Due to a blind 80 odd year old women I now need to replace my beloved M5 (see below) any suggestions from the masses? I'm thinking around the 7-10k mark, it will be my only car.

Oh no! Hope you're ok. Sad to see 1 less E34 M5, much salvageable?

E36 M3.

Then buy an E30 Shell (Touring?) and put M5 running gear into it.
Proper PH response right here.
I'll just leave this here...

Good god no ! Bork fact is ridiculous on these, repair bills can make M5's look cheap to run .....Sub 10K B5 RS4 is a nono from me.
I disagree. It's not the RS6 with the auto box that costs ££££ to replace. An RS4 with decent FSH and has been cared for isn't exactly unreliable. Turbos, cambelt and clutch is an engine out job IIRC.

Christ what a shame. Natural progression is the E39 M5.

Some good suggestions so far, I'm starting to feel a little less gutted now at least. The fact remains that there is a hole in my life that used to be filled huge waves of torque, long gears, and that glorious scream from the straight six. The e39 is the obvious progression, although I gather its a different character to the e34, I'm liking some of the more leftfield suggestions too although I just don't have the space for a major project at the moment frown

Judging by that quote then its an e46 m3 for you.

They still look great, and have all the things you mention above with the added bonus of much better handling. If not for you then its another e34.
