You sir are a complete basket case! What sort of brilliant mentalist just decides his car should be mid-engined?? hehe

Ha, thanks chaps!

Not the first time its been suggested that i might be a bit "unhinged"

I should hopefully get the structure finished this week. Im going to remove the original engine mounts from the front and weld them into the rear framework.. I hate drilling spotwelds though..

Personnaly, now you're mid engined, i wouldn't bother with the front axle drive. Extra weight for no gain (assuming you ain't going to be gravel rallying it ;-)

Thanks chaps lol

Max_Torque: Not a chance lol, that is specifically what i wanted.. Ive always been a fan of the mad Group N cars, the RS200, 6R4 .etc, plus i like the idea of handling a high horsepower engine using 4wd, even better if its biased properly like the skylines, the Porsche 4wd also..

I know there is extra weight associated with having the prop, diff, hydraulics and drive shafts. But to be honest the engineering behind the mid, rear / part time front wheel drive is alot more interesting to me..

Plus some of my favorite time attack cars / hillclimb cars are AWD, maybe not quite like this but they still deliver their power to all 4 wheels..

As another engineering challenge, are you going to do anything about the operation of that there gearbox? I was thinking maybe you could ditch the cable linkage and have a pneumatic actuated gearbox (either getting it to perform the H-pattern - complex! or having a seperate actuator for each dog... probably simpler!) with some nifty paddles or the ol' push forward/pull back stick to control it...

Then of course the tough decision would be whether to stop there or go the whole hog and automate the clutch and blip the throttle for downshifts/ignore the downshift if it would cause overrevving...

You're nuts and I think I just threw a difficult idea at you, but I think you could make it work...

Later on I'll pitch a fully hydraulic suspension system idea to you like the MP4-12C has and you can mull that over as well...

Ever thought about using this as a test-bed and chucking all your hard work into something like an RS200 replica from one of the kit car companies?

Could be quite the weapon!

Can't see pics at work but it sounds and reads like a great project! I didn't sell you my old magnaflow exhaust by any chance did I? Use to have a red EG9 quite a few years back, always thought I'd love to drop Evo running gear into, basically Evo chassis with an EG9 shell, ultimate weapon if you ask me, try even keep the stock VTi wheels albeit with R888 and a forged 2.3l engine, run around 500bhp the thing would fly while keeping the body stock wink

Just need to win Euromillions now to make it true!

ha thanks for the replies chaps!

Please keep asking for updates, i love it... thats how i know ive not bored people to death- like i do in normal conversation..

Lol its funny you suggest that, i briefly considered the idea of electronic shifting.. Unfortunately i just dont think it would be possible with this gearbox. There are too many things to go wrong in doing it... However, as long as it didnt need to automate the clutch i see no reason why i couldnt do it if i put the time in..

And as for the hydraulic suspension idea, i really shouldnt admit it but the thought had crossed my mind- even the idea of using the xantia parts lol but luckily i think i stopped myself getting too into those ideas..

unfortunately im still waiting on mig wire so i havnt done much.. Over the last few days ive stripped some more of the boot structure away and cut the new metal to shape. I am adding box section to the original "frame rails" which will add the strength back to it which ive removed, provide triangulation to the rear shock towers and a frame for the new lower subframe to attach..

At the moment its all g-clamped together so its not much to look at, but once that wire turns up ill tack it all together, remove it weld it all up and get it in. Then its a case of building up the boot floor which ive removed to the new chassis and add a lick of paint. Then i need to double check all the measurements and weld in the engine mounts.. Then effectively the mid engine work is complete.

Easily one of the best/interesting threads on PH, no chance of boring anyone!

People like you need to win the Euro lottery and start your own British sports car company smile

I love the ingenuity and invention, the enthusiasm come through in everything you write and I love the updates.

Please make this project the first of many smile

i would love this to be the first of many projects, however i dont think i can do this again any time soon.. Plus the comment earlier about the RS200.. You have no idea how much i would love to do that- the RS200 is my favorite car (more specifically the Liam Doran Pikes Peak car).
