Damn nice, i just wish i could afford it!

I think the drivetrain might be a decent swap over, however i would be a little concerned about the space for a transverse engine in a bay designed for a transverse..

I do love the RS200 though, an amazing car!

Finished a bit more tonight. This is the new rear structure. It will be welded into what is left of the original frame rails and carry the new lower subframe. Once installed ill be adding diagonal braces from the end points to the strut towers.

I'm 99% sure I've seen a transverse engine replica about... wink

Anyway, I won't take this thread off track!

Keep up the good work - all very impressive!

Little update for today;

I welded in the new rear structure and finished the engine mount structure.

I know the welding leaves alot to be desired but when the engines back out ill tidy it all up..

Im also waiting on some parts coming from FIBERWORX UK..

EG Civic fog light bumper ducts to feed the oil coolers

Fibreglass Canards (4x)

An Extra wide rear diffuser (this is their standard one)

Front splitter blade

2 fibreglass panels which will form the new removable firewall hatch

and a chargespeed / spoon replica lip (the one similar to the J's Racing lip) which ill be ducting into my front brakes.. Im going to slightly redesign the front active aero system to drop the splitter blade anda small fence tucked in behind the bumper instead of dropping the entire lip like before..

Good news..

The rear subframe is done.. Ive used the ASR brace as a template and used it to mount the ARB..

Its not quite finished though, needs to come off again..

Why did I read that in the voice of Jezza from Top Gear when he talks about the Dacia? hehe

Keep at it OP! I can see this being an amazing Civic when it's finished. I bet Jalopnik or SpeedHunters would love to do a feature on it!

Just some advice, from the looks of things the box section you are using looks like thin wall stuff, seamed, which is not ver strong.
For the power your wanting to run an the use of the car I would be changing it all to thick wall stuff.

Thats pretty correct.

Its 50x50mm, or 25x50mm box section, 2.5mm wall seamed.

I am going to stick with it for now, as i am trying to minimise the weight, plus i cant afford to be changing it all now.. I have tried to make up for the lack of material strength by the geometry and general arrangement of the structure but it is something i will need to keep an eye on once the car is finished..

I have had an update from FIBERWORX today, they are doing an amazing job with my sunroof intakes. This is a picture before the next layer of high build primer;

This is probably a really bad thing to mention, but now the bonnet is empty, are you going to put some kind of aero at the front?

ha not a problem lol

The fuel cell, diff, diff controller, brake pump, ABS , radiators, and fuel pumps are in the front.

The front splitter extends all the way back to the front subframe, the splitter has a secondary lip on it so when the active aero controller drops the front lip at high speed (when its less likely to be smashed off)it will increase the whole underbody downforce.

the secondary lip will stop entering between the lower splitter position and the front lip.

Ive tried to move as much weight as i can forward to balance it out- i could do with borrowing some computerscales off someone to check..

Fantastic thread, been following with great interest. Now for a rather dull question - I do apologise. What do you write the software for your electronic boxes in? And what chips do you use? I know little about electronics but assume its some sort of ROM chip you use and was wondering if you have to compile machine code, or whether you write in, say, C++ and compile it to run somehow?

Sorry if it's a bone question!

Mate PLEASE do something about the material you are using.
This is going to cause you major problems in the future even with braces.
Having built a few rear engine cars i would not even make an engine mount out of that stuff, as i have seen it rip like paper when under load.
I understand cost may be a factor BUT its false economy do everything twice.
I will also note (not being funny) your welding isent the best, so a factor of weak material and weak welds is not good mate. I have watched this car on HondaTech (as a welder fabricator myself) please dont get this far and fall.
look open invertation, i am only in manchester, come see some of my rear engine cars and get some ideas as theres alot of factors you need to take into consideration.
