So, following on from the W140 that served me marvellously for 12000 miles the next bargainous (and potentially ruinous) barge has been bought! www.pistonheads.com/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&f=47...After having a bit of a torrid time on eBay and missing out on a few nice Audi A6 Quattros and getting messed about by a few traders over MGs and 328 Tourers I finally struck lucky this morning and won this rather spiffy looking 2001 V70 T5. I was expecting it to finish at around £14-1500, but rather surprisingly i won it for the grand sum of £1070 Ill be picking it up on Saturday - ive got myself a sleazyjet flight booked from Schippol to Manchester, a night at my relatives in Bradford and then a pick up arranged for Sunday. Another night with relatives in the UK on Sun night and then the P&O ferry to Rotterdam Monday night. Ive got myself a GoPro HD motorsports recently and will try to document the roadtrip as best I can! Im not expecting miracles for £1k but after speaking to the seller it all seems very genuine! FSH, winter pack, family pack, cream leather, Volvo tow hook, 13 months MOT, a bit of tax and 4 decent tyres. The body looks straight with the worst spot being a graze on the front bumper and the interior looks to be in very good nick. Photos below from the eBay advert, plenty more to come on Saturday. Wish me luck, this will be the 3rd car I have bought blind on eBay and had to drive straight back to NL in - im hoping my good luck continues.

Blimey I assumed it would be the old model for that money, a hell of a lot of car for the money.

It'll be a nice drive home; glorious seats, cracking engine and what looks like the uprated sound system.

Looks great for a grand. Those rear seats are really cool with the table and built in booster seats too. Not as cool as your old Merc, but I'm seriously loving all your barging threads A lex

Im not sure I will ever top the Merc in terms of complete bargain factor, but if this one turns out to be as good as it looks I think it will be excellent value and potentially last me a lot longer. The Merc was always a bit of a compromise not having a towing hook and being a saloon. Plus my OH absolutely HATED it Just booked myself the last few trains etc for the weekend, so it looks like I am all set. Although its costing me about €320 in transport there and back I am quite happy to write these costs off as I will also get to see family back in the UK. I am very (abnormally) excited. I honestly have more fun doing this kind of stuff than I ever did driving new & expensive motors. Its also been confirmed by the seller that the plate is: X435 HTF as spotted in the bills/invoices. The previous owner who ran the car between 2001-2005 had it on the plate '19 HC' - so im pretty sure it will have been looked after quite well in the early years.

the only thing to look out for is shunting from d to r and back and slipping out of gear on the approach to junctions on the auto box, mine does it, you need to learn how to drive round it, but it is possible. Not really worth spending the money to get it fixed (£1,500+)
i love mine though, struggling to think what to replace it with.
