We have had some interesting and entertaining cars but none has prompted me to think about a daily diary recording the exploits with the car before. Mainly I think because there are lots of enthusiasts doing it and I don't think I would have much to add.

However I think this one might be just a bit different. The sense of reward versus utter ruination is greater than even Ferarri ownership and I suspect not too many folks have recorded the ownership experience of their 750s.

I will try to post something every day: don't expect a scintillating topic of glorious restoration every post though, it will take a bit of time (and cash!) to get this beast of a car fettled. Wish us luck, we're going to need it!

I've nearly taken the plunge with these myself and will follow with interest.

Picatories...

Well I will start with the purchase and trip home. The car is grubby and needs a deep clean and detail. Had a good look underneath. It isn't in as good nick below as the Jaaaaag but that I think is an exception for its age. Some elbow grease, wire brushes and generous application of a hammerite type substance will rescue that (good thing I have a TVR that needs doing too, I will be dead good at undercracker resto by the time I am finished with these two! ) Paint generally good, few nicks and scratches need sorting. A barely noticeable crease in the boot lid will need doing as will a ding in the roof. The seal around the windscreen is perishing and will need replacing. The fuel tank has been repaired but is not pretty so will be on the list of stuff to do if this is a keeper. Front tyres made in china, new but will be replaced by proper tyres. Rears are good Dunlop SP sports. Brakes grumbly under light braking so will do a disc, pad fluid change soon. Drive home was entertaining due to the engine being super smooth and having the full complement of ponies and gear changes being responsive and problem free. Driver side fan for ventilation not working and cup holder carefully put together to hide it was bust. CD changer not working, but old fashioned sat nave is: though it sounds like you are being directed by the count from Sesame Street.

Tootled into town today, not much opportunity for hilarity but goodness, that engine! It brakes straight and true, though it unfortunately (and probably inevitably) has a bit of a 50mph shimmy. From what I have read it is not an onerous job at all to fix and I could do it myself with access to a ramp (which I could probably get )

Power steering fluid is a bit low so I think we need to look further into a possible leak, probably a worn joint somewhere. One annoyance was the bloody airbag light coming on after we had fiddled around with the seat settings. So a further fiddle needed.

Currently researching the correct fluid for the power steering and looking for an owners manual: neither of us spotted it was a 740 one Poop.

Not much chance this week of work on the car or pics but it gives us time to do some more reading

Endoscope and BMW OBD-II adaptor ordered. Let the fettling commence!

On another note, I'm really looking forward to being able to give the thing a damned good clean inside and out - it's a bonding ritual you have to undertake with any new car to make it your own Besides which, it's been smoked in and really needs it At least that was my excuse this afternoon to spend over £100 on cleaning stuff, including a steam cleaner!

You impatient buggers! We work for a living so next weekend will be first chance we get, soz!
