I was drawn to the fact this was clean and original.
MOT is due in April
So i decided to take mine in for a pre MOT to see what would need sorting over the next few months and also to see what i was going to do with it.
Well it passed 1st time so it now has 12 not 2 months MOT on it! Only advisory was the handbrake needs adjusting which i can tackle this weekend.
This has changed things somewhat as now i am veering away from turning it into a track day car and might just barge around in it for a while (let the 530i have a rest)
Only other things done today was i gave it a clean and a quick go over with some detailing spray.
And i hoovered and wiped down the interior.
It needs a full detail inside and out to bring it all back to scratch.
There are a few bits to do around the car (very little jobs) which hopefully shouldn't be too expensive. The main thing is its got a full MOT and is taxed so is road legal.
I do think the cooling system needs looking at as a matter of precaution. The previous owner had fitted a new radiator but i think it's still on its original plastic impeller water pump and thermostat! It struggles to warm up very quickly, so hopefully i can tackle this next week.
Sorry for the loooonnng update will post pics up soon but it's snowing again now!

Hmm eating my words!!!
Maybe not soo much of a bargain.
Went to replace the water pump and thermostat as a matter of caution today and the car is overheating!!!
So we changed the water pump and thermostat, refilled ect ect ran the car no problems took it for a drive ran to operating temperature no problem.
Then low and behold temp goes right off the scale boiling coolant everywhere!
Got the car back to my garage pumped the pipes to get air bubbles out ect (if there were any left) noticed the radiator isnt warming up either!!??
Any ideas or suggestions, im think the worse that its a blown head gasket but why isn't the radiator getting hot?

When you changed the pump and thermostate did you flush the cooling system through with a hose pipe? Also it is not unknown for new parts not to work! Check the new thermostate by chucking it in hot water and see if it opens? I say this after having first hand experience with a cheap pattern thermostate! If all this checks out ok then its time to start looking down the route of head gasket I am afraid!
Can anyone give me a full run down on what i should be doing on bleeding the system.
Any hints and tips.
Obviously all parts are now back on and the right amount of coolant and water is in the system.
Any help would be appreciated.
The skeptic part of me still believes the head gasket is gone however that doesnt explain no water in the pipes and the radiator not heating up.
If it is the head gasket i dont know what to do with it.
On one hand the car doesnt owe me much and it passed its MOT first time no issues.
However i have no real need for car apart from to use as a part time runabout or maybe take on some track days!! As i have a e39 530i as well.
Scrap or replace the headgasket? Is too good to scrap but its a massive job that would take a while.
