Ordered a new numbrplate light off ebay and will start trying to get some of the swirls out of the bonnet today. Unfortunately i have to wait 2 weeks for my current insurance to run out (on the MGF) so i can use the no claims to insure the Jag. It will have to just sit on the drive until then

so much jealousy my dad had a sovereign (4 litre with all the toys) a couple of years ago, I used to love wafting around in that. insurance wasnt too brutal either. it was 600 for the year for me as a named driver (genuine named driver, i didnt get to use it that often) and I was only 19 at the time.

tali1 said: 23 /XJR -INSURANCE ??? In fact any Jag for a 23yr old - surely computer says no? -or does postcode say yes? How many young kids crash Jags? None, they are cheap to insure if you are over 21. I've had my 528 for nearly 4 years and I'm 25 now, never paid over £800 to insure it fully comp, and it's actually more expensive to insure than the Jag. Beats driving a Honda/Ford/Skoda shopping trolley.

And half that around town. Who cares though When the back silencers rot out, replace with a SS straight through, you don't need the centre cats for the MoT - just the precats

This does look tempting http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/jaguar-xj6s-stainless-st...I want to keep the car nice and quiet though so will probably leave the exhaust alone for the time being. Got all of the service bits today so expect an update later (providing all goes well )

Service is all going well so far. The old oil was thick and black and well overdue a change. I picked up the service parts from British Parts in Stevenage. Oil ready to go in New oil filter snuggly in place (actually easier to get to than it looks) Old Vs New air filter New Plugs So far it has been great to work on. Access is good and its nice that everything is well made and thought through. Next up is coolant, fuel filter and brake fluid

Coming on nicely.
Just a point to note - when I needed some parts recently, BritishParts were more expensive than the local Jag dealer.

Thanks for the tip i will find out where my local jag dealer is For the bits i got today the price seemed good. The filter service kit (oil filter, air filter, sump plug washer and fuel filter) was £22 and the spark plugs were £2 each.

Well Done OP,
I had a XJS far to many years ago when I was 21, and then a XJ6, after going through the entire Peugeot range, insurance even back then was about 1/2 what I was paying on a 309 gti. Only recently got back to jag's after a 19 year gap!. The S-type I have now has been 100% perfect in the 10 months I've had it. just don't get bogged down with fuel consumption, use it and enjoy it.

What a great buy. Looks mint. Jags are/were the best kept insurance secret. I had a Series III XJ6 4.2 sov at 24. Me and my mates would drive it around smoking cigars wearing trilby's. What a hoot. Even kept a half bottle of whisky in the glove box. (Only for effect). Enjoy, what a great car.

I don’t think that I’ve ever paid £2 for a spark plug, not even on a 1.1 205!
(I mean they've always cost more)

Cracked on with the rest of the days jobs, first up coolant change: mmm orange And replacing the old CD player. This is what greeted me when pulling the old one out And yes the connections under the tape were just twisted copper as well as small extensions of wire (2-3") spliced in as well I ripped out the old harness and connected it to the harness for my head unit (using solder and heat shrink). There was tons of scrap cable left over from the bodger before but all looking much better now, and i also found and connected up the aerial feed so it (tries to) go up and down when the radio is put on. The aerial seems to go up ok on its own but on the way down needs some help and the motor sounds crap. I tried cleaning it up and lubricating it to no avail Can these normally be fixed or should i start looking for a replacement?
