For the last 4 years I’ve been commuting to work by public transport curiosity of East Midlands Trains. And with the imminent move to a more rural location, I thought it would be high time to get myself back into 4 wheels. So the last few weeks have been spent trailing through ebay looking for a bargin barge. Wasn’t really that fussed as long as it was fairly reliable! I’ve also got a 1982 Mini Van for tinkering and blasting around in. (when I’ve finished restoring it that is.) Started just looking at anything really didn’t want a ford had two fiestas in the past both got nicked/broken into. First car was a mini 850cc saloon but I’ve already got one mini. Third car was a Volvo 340GS looked like a brick, reliable as a brick, and went round corners like a sideways brick. So ended up looking at Beemers 323/328’s couple of friends have had them in the past and quite liked the shape. Then I thought why not another Volvo? Wanted something bit different and newer than the 340, started looking at options of the S40 sport on a 2000ish plate, when my cousin (ex Volvo dealer) said why don’t you look at S60’s. So Monday I went and picked up my black S60 and drove back from Chester to the midlands. And I have to say, I’m loving it at the moment, lots of toys full leather, cruise control is the thing of gods, Dolby pro-logic stereo, 17’s on skinny tyres. And best of all I think it looks like an under cover cop car. Only got a dealer picture at the moment as its dark by the time I get home and still on the train at the moment. Looking forward to giving it a good wash and polish at the weekend, then off to Norwich for the 5th round of the FA cup. Enjoy.

Yes the seats are most comfortable mine came with fully adjustable electric with lumbar support... Did 120 odd miles on monday back from chester and felt like I'd just been transported on a bed of duvets.
PS yes does have cruise control... I've driven a couple of hire cars with cruise but nothing really as exective as the S60 and my its great. Just stick it on, sit back in your comfy armchair and watch it eat the miles... while the dolby pro-logic massages your ears with what ever music takes your fancy... Im my case the previous owners sounds of pan pipes volume 2.. got quite into it.

Great cars these. I'm a real Volvo fan (as you know already) Nothing better for mile munching, they clear lanes like the parting of the red-sea you mention it has "skinny" tires! what size are they? I'd not say mine are skinny but then I guess it depends on what you are used too What are your initial thoughts on handling? I was very pleasantly surprised when I first drove mine with some vigour on a country lane.

Sorry maybe skinny was the wrong term, more like rubber bands height wise on the 17's, think there something like 225/45's, although I've not actually looked yet but from the back they look as wide as the grand canyan. Not really had the chance to chuck it down any lanes just yet, I've only been on dual carrage and motorways, lobbed it into a few switchbacks on roundabouts, it seems to grip like when you where young and just found out how to masturbate though. I managed to brake the bloody steering wheel height adjust lever last night aswell. £12 for a new one from the volvo dealer so not as bad as I thought. The guy in the part dept said they are a swine to do though as you have to take most of the steering column apart. Off to Norwich for the FA cup tomorrow. Actaully looking forward more to the drive and the game. COME ON THE FOXES>>>!

Small update. Well I've had the car a little over 3 weeks now and im still in love with it! Had a problem with a slight mis-fire and it running like a sack of spuds the week before last. Took it into my local mechanic who put it on the diagnostics machine as it had an emissions light on. Mis-fire turned out to be down to a ruined spark plug (see below) my mechanic thinks this is down the monkey that serviced it last cracking the spark plugs down to tight. New set of plugs later and shes running like a dream now. The car was in need of a good detail as the black paint had faded and had next to no polish on it. Cue 4 hours with the buffer cutting it back and another hour applying a few layers of polish. Couple refection shots. And one last shot next to my other love. The difference in size it something else! Other than that just enjoying driving it.

That looks noce and the wheels are very subtle.
I had a 2.0 T SE as a company car back in 2001. Loved the car but the turning circle was awful.
Swapped for a D5 S which had smaller wheels so was better in car parks, and I ended up preferring it on the open road too.

I don't understand the complaints about Volvo turning circle. I've never noticed them being any harder to manouvre in tight spaces than any other car I've driven.

But then I'm not so sure as I've been used to hatchbacks and minis most of my driving career, I find I have to compensate more for the width and length when parking. (ew er matron) Really glad that I took some pics after cleaning it on Weds, when I got home after work yesterday the tropical storm we had in Leicester shat a load of sand all over it again. Although I'm glad we didn't get the hail as bad as it was in Hinckley, one of the lads from footys clio's ruined!!!! Dents all over the roof and bonnet. Poor buggers only been driving 3 years and had the car 12months.

The S is better than the SE for steering lock, I guess because of the smaller wheels, but both specs are bad. It's the only car I've ever had that needs a 3 point turn to get out of the PC World carpark, or to get into normal parking spaces, and I've had many cars that are significantly bigger

My S60's been in the garage for 3 days now trying to find the source of 2 fault codes and still no joy!
The emissions light on the dash has been on for sometime now, so it went in (Friday) my garage had flagged up a faulty Evap value on their computer, had to order the part so it went back in Wednesday to have a new one. That fitted I thought all would be well.... how wrong I was! value fitted the light was still on!!! although this time my garage's diagnostic machine couldn't read the fault codes. Luckly there's a specialist round the corner with a volvo computer, they said that there's fault codes for the VVT actuator and a turbo sensor not having enough current.
Just wondering if this is something anyone has come across before?
