The Escort's cracking - I suspect I'd be well short of the funds required but what kind of price would you be looking for?
I would take £12,000 or a very close offer for it, basically would be happy to get back what I bought it for.

Yep - seems a very reasonable price but a couple of K beyond me at the moment, out of interest would you mind sharing the rest of the spec beyond the XE lump?

As much as I can remember at the moment.

It has a full steel wide arch kit fitted as you can see.
Full coil over suspension front and rear
Six link rear axle
Widened prop tunnel
Exhaust tunnel fabricated
C20 let engine
Vauxhall omega 5 speed gearbox
4 pot front brake kit
Internal fire extinguisher kit installed
Roll cage
After market management with a fifth injector (unsure on the make and model at the moment)
16 inch wheels, wider at the rear 8 inch (off the top off my head)
All windows are perspex with sliders for the front
Bonnet and tailgate are fibre glass.

Ditch the Vauhall lump

"BDA" or "BDG" all the way

and set her up as a track day car then contest a few classic events

The "Ditch the XE" cries. I thought the GM XE was basically an old SRI 130 block bored out and give a Cosworth based 16V head. I know the GM vs Ford thing is big in the colonies but it's a bloody good engine and dare I say it cheaper to maintain than the YB, more tunable than the Zetec/Duratec and easier to live with than a Pinto/Crossflow/Lotus engine.

Both are great cars in their own way but I'd sell the Porsche when the classic market picks up and keep the Escort as it's more; me. driving

Bin the Beetle and keep the Escort, that is a stunning looking car and has a fantastic engine powering it, XE engines are very very underrated.

Heres mine living in a Mini, far better than any A series in terms of bang for buck and has never ever let me down in 6 years. Purists move on.

Ah - what I and everyone else seem to have missed is that it's a C20LET rather than XE - makes things even more interesting! I'd love to make an offer on it but simlhy can't justify the spend at the moment, lovely car though.

To be honest that's the feeling I am having at the minute, every time I look at it I like it more, I am going to remove a few bits and pieces and get them looking there best and advertise both cars, which ever one sells first will go, the Porsche is worth a little more but both cars are great fun to drive and turn heads.

They both seem to appeal to the older generation which is good as a boy racer won't hopefully buy it and stick it in a ditch.

There is a thread that was knocked up about five years ago, I will see if I can find it.

The car was sold a good four years ago and is being turned into even more of a monster by rely and Motorsport I believe.

EFA but this man makes sense.

I like that Escort. Would have it over the Porsche any time.

Is it only me who cringes when I see an engine without a timing belt cover? I've seen a couple of very expensive engines get mangled because something got caught up in the belt.

I'd love to own a Porsche one day, and have had many Escorts in the past - but nothing as special as that! Keep the Escort...

I look forward to seeing the fully equiped adverts for both cars to be honest!! Make sure they both go up on PH smile

I wouldn't know a good classic Ford if it bit me on the nose but that one certainly looks and sounds nice.

Both cars look lovely, although I'm not a fan of targa 911s so it loses out a bit for that. The Escort though would be the keeper for me as it's just that bit more special. Out of interest, why do you think it is that you haven't 'gelled' with it?

I don't know to be honest I have always been a Peugeot man to be fair but had a thing for mk1 and 2 escorts, when this popped up for sale I just had to have it. You know that thing, you crave for something and then when you get it there is a doubt in the back of your mind?

I have a motorbike and a work van for work obviously so the escort never really got a look in, (not enough hours in the day) I think if I use the escort etc I may like it.

The Porsche, hmm well it's a porsche, German engineering at its best. It's a total stunner in the flesh, everything about its lovely.

I do like a good bit of German engineering and the Porsche does look like a very nice example. However, I do like my cars to be raw and a bit rough round the edges, I think the Escort fits more into that category so that's the winner for me. I have to say though, I remember your original thread with the 106 and it gave me all kind of daft ideas until I realised my skill level was nowhere near high enough to attempt what I had in mind!
