Welding the sleeved on the dampers like have done the oil much good, or the seals, lucky you didn't get pyrolysis inside the dampers or you would be due for a long hospital stay...

Very interesting project! I'd be interested in how much reinforcement is needed in the chassis for something like this, is it just adding plenty of box section, if there are any problem areas (I've no ideawhat you'd need between the front bulkhead and floor for example) etc.

Myself and a mate have had an idea of chopping the roof and windscreen off a hot hatch or something and adding bracing and a roll over bar or half cage, creating for example a cross between a clio 172 and a lotus 2-11. Stupid idea but could be good fun! I'm not sure just how sturdy you'd need to make the finished car though ('very' seems to be my only answer so far!) As long as it ends up being strong enough, I dont see why you couldn't.

Good luck!

Sadly crap weather and being busy with work has reduced updates recently frown

Here's a few photos:

Anti-roll bar painted and fitted:

Sitting on the airbags:

Roof pretty much sat right now:

Mounting frame for the roof:

Roof folded down with roof cover fitted:

Adding strengthening to windscreen frame:

Also looked at fitting a better brake servo than the original, and plumped for one from the 3.0 v6 406 Coupe. Here's a comparison:

It bolts straight in, but sadly the bonnet won't shut when the master cylinder is fitted frown

Feels scary at the moment as I've cut away a LOT of metal, and haven't added much in the way of replacement yet! Got a lot more to do though. I'll try and post a bit more regularly with updates too. whistle
