Great work. Love these. Wanted one back in 89/90, yours looks fantastic. Can't remember the last time I saw one on the road. Keep up the good work

Superb. Had a black one back in the mid 90's and it's the only car I miss. I was gutted the day I put it through a hedge backwards.

Any engine bay shots with that lovely red cam cover?

Thanks for the comments.
Here's a shot of the engine bay from about a year ago. It's a daily driver, so I don't polish under there every week or anything...!

A few updates from the last 3 months:

28/08/12
73,400 miles.
V-tuning
Gearbox fluid drained & replaced. New gasket fitted.

16/10/12
73,700 miles.
I decided that as far as I was concerned, the Piper was simply too loud for a daily driver.
Walker back box fitted at Mr Exhaust, Reigate. £80 all-in.
Car sounds great now. Rorty enough, but not anti-sociable loud. Probably a 25-30% reduction in over all noise levels throughout the rev range I would guess.

20/10/12
Won these on the bay for a tenner inc p&p!

30/10/12
Well I'm set for Winter now, with a fully working sunroof!
Craig, the trimmer I use cleared the drains & found that the winder mechanism was at fault.
He got a working replacement from an old Corsa for £10
Here's the old one:

And the sunroof slid all the way back for the first time in many a year I suspect:

Great to see one being looked after. Still have a soft spot for these having owned 2 16v GTEs and still have a saved search on eBay.

My sunroof was jammed when I bought mine - didnt take long to get it functioning fine though

It handles really well as an enthusiastically driven daily, but then it isn't standard!

Like the 205 Gtis they don't reward indecision when cornering - great car if you're reasonably competent though

Hi Zygalski,
I'm local to you in Redhill, I also need some minor paintwork for my BMW 328 sport. Do you rate Ian Taylor's work and would you recommend them? Your 'valves' looks cracking - pleased to see you have brought it back to its former glory.... The wheels look fantastic.

Thanks!
Ian Taylor did a good job on the rear panel, boot floor & front bumper.
Both jobs came to a total of about £400.
I would definitely use again, even though there are cheaper places out there.

Lovely motor OP. Saw one, in this same colour, on the A1 today and what a cracking looking car.

Thanks - I will give them a call or drop in for a quote.

I actually learnt to drive in my dads Astra GTE 8v back in the early 90's (he had bought the car new and ran it until 88K from memory) loved the seats, so comfortable and the digi dash....so retro it hurts!

Update time.
28/11/2012 V-Tuning. Front suspension top mounts replaced with Febi ones, due to old ones splitting.
24/01/2012 V-Tuning. Front O/S ABS wheel sensor replaced.

SAJ had his MOT today & passed... eventually!
His horn wasn't working so the centre had a replacement ordered which arrived an hour later.

The "very slight corrosion to underside of vehicle" is just a tiny bit of surface rust where the sill rails have been jacked up at some stage. The rest of the underneath was 100%
