MY MK1 Supercharged MX5 (Eunos Roadster)
Discussion
Went out to get some BBQ stuff, ended up going on a thrash and grabbing some phone pics. Love summer.

Not updated this in a while, bad Horney!
It's been a busy few months of modify, race, break, repeat. Touch wood I have got over most of the niggles and reached a place where it should be reliable. I've probably jinxed it now.
The main news is that it is now fitted with a 15% reducer supercharge pulley combined with an Intercooler and a dump valve. This has meant that that lovely chap Nick at Skuzzle Motorsport has managed to tweak the map and give me 221bhp at the Flywheel. It's quite the weapon now.
Some pictures for you all.

2015 plans are to add a 6 speed box and Torsen LSD from a MK2, some uprated Anti Roll bars and go Sprinting and Hill climbing. I also need to get some bigger injectors as they're currently running at 112% Duty Cycle at 6500rpm. OK on the road but not so good for holding it high in the revs at an event.

The former! Do you have a Knocklink, DetAlarm or similar, or a wideband lambda sensor and an AFR gauge?
If it leans out you could hole a piston or destroy your big ends before you have realised that its going wrong.
Nope, none of that. Only more gauges to worry about. It's chucking in plenty of fuel and wasn't leaning out at all on the rollers so I'm not overly worried for winter road use but it will be getting some Supra injectors or similar before the 2015 season kicks off. It's currently running RX8 yellows. If it leans out you could hole a piston or destroy your big ends before you have realised that its going wrong.

love that intercooler, and pipe work but cutting the slam panel was lazy for the fabricator. More then enough space down low to route the pipes without needing to do that, I'm not sure if thats structural but on a old roadster id want parts potentially structural parts left un-touched. The work does look great however.
It's about as structural as a fag paper. Routing it that way and cutting the panel massively reduces the pipe run compaed to running it down and round the rad. Less pipework, less throttle lag, happy HorneyMX5. I will tidy up the whole install at some point and that includes the cut slam panel, at the moment it's all about getting it working properly. Thought I'd have some fun with getting some "Team Wear" made up.

Since fitting the smaller pulley I've had an issue with the injectors running at over 100% duty cycle at 6,500rpm and above. This is clearly not good!
Swapped out the fuel filter and the fuel pressure regulator and while there was an improvement it was still not great.
Fitted a 190lph Walbro along with a rewire running it straight from the battery via a relay triggered from the original loom and we have a result. Pressures at the rail back to what they should, no pressure creep with the stronger pump and on the RR it was considerably richer all the way through the revs. Nick tweaked the map and now I have good AFRs right up to the limiter and a fair bit of head room in the injector duty cycles. I can now use full revs for long periods without being terrified it's going to lean out blow itself to pieces.
We also swapped out all the lower wishbone bolts at the fron tot try and cure my clonk on heavy load right-handers. I've had the alignment set and so far no clonk although it's a bit slippy out at the moment to really throw the car around. Time will tell. A big thanks to Nick @ Skuzzle Motorsport for all his hard work as usual and also to the Wheel Alignment Centre in Southampton for setting the Geo, the car feels better than ever now.
Have some pics:
A full workshop
Fitted the Jackson Racing ARBs a while ago but forgot to take any pics
Pub at end of Day one
While the MX5 was in bits I had the Skuzzle Motorsport Micra of Doom on loan
We Have Boost Sticker
Getting the Geo done
All done

Bought a Momo Prototipo at Autosport Back at the beginning of Jan and it finally arrived last week. Got it fitted this morning.

Originally my plan for this year was to pop a 6 speed box and a Torsen diff in this and go Hillclimbing and sprinting. There's been a change of plan involving this:
Untitled by Nicholas R Horne, on Flickr
It's not mine but it's going to cost me money and has resulted in me booking my ARDS for a full race licence. This means a trimming of the budget for doing stuff in my mx5 this year and while I'm gong to try and do plenty of speed events the 6 speed and diff are now certainly on the back burner.
More on the mk2 in the coming weeks.

I've been running the standard manifold since charging it and recently it's been blowing from the collector. Picked up a Trust 4-2-1 stainless from an MX5 breaker and fitted it up today with homemade heat blanket to keep some of the heat away from the charger.

Sounds much deeper now and seems to have a bit more mid range torque.
