Went to Autosport yesterday and purchased a race suit, nomex underwear and a new lid. Time to get serious and take this thing onto the Hillclimb and Sprint circuit.

Thought I'd have some fun with getting some "Team Wear" made up.

Since fitting the smaller pulley I've had an issue with the injectors running at over 100% duty cycle at 6,500rpm and above. This is clearly not good!

Swapped out the fuel filter and the fuel pressure regulator and while there was an improvement it was still not great.

Fitted a 190lph Walbro along with a rewire running it straight from the battery via a relay triggered from the original loom and we have a result. Pressures at the rail back to what they should, no pressure creep with the stronger pump and on the RR it was considerably richer all the way through the revs. Nick tweaked the map and now I have good AFRs right up to the limiter and a fair bit of head room in the injector duty cycles. I can now use full revs for long periods without being terrified it's going to lean out blow itself to pieces.

We also swapped out all the lower wishbone bolts at the fron tot try and cure my clonk on heavy load right-handers. I've had the alignment set and so far no clonk although it's a bit slippy out at the moment to really throw the car around. Time will tell. A big thanks to Nick @ Skuzzle Motorsport for all his hard work as usual and also to the Wheel Alignment Centre in Southampton for setting the Geo, the car feels better than ever now.

Have some pics:

Fitted the Jackson Racing ARBs a while ago but forgot to take any pics

Pub at end of Day one

While the MX5 was in bits I had the Skuzzle Motorsport Micra of Doom on loan

Originally my plan for this year was to pop a 6 speed box and a Torsen diff in this and go Hillclimbing and sprinting. There's been a change of plan involving this:

It's not mine but it's going to cost me money and has resulted in me booking my ARDS for a full race licence. This means a trimming of the budget for doing stuff in my mx5 this year and while I'm gong to try and do plenty of speed events the 6 speed and diff are now certainly on the back burner.

More on the mk2 in the coming weeks.

I've been running the standard manifold since charging it and recently it's been blowing from the collector. Picked up a Trust 4-2-1 stainless from an MX5 breaker and fitted it up today with homemade heat blanket to keep some of the heat away from the charger.

Sounds much deeper now and seems to have a bit more mid range torque.

It's a Cusco (safety 21) 4 point. They come up for sale on the forums every now and again.

Today was nice and sunny and the wife was out so I cracked on and got a few jobs done.

Fitted a strut brace I bought this week (need to fab up a brake stopper on it soon).
Fixed the non working windscreen washers.
Fitted the one (because I didn't realise I needed to order 2!) transit washer jet.
Re-fitted the horns as I'd taken them off to fit the intercooler, forgot to re-fit and then tidied them away.
Replaced the centre console/armrest as the original one had broken where the leccy window switches screw into.
Gave it a clean.

Are you taking the MX5 racing?

We'll done on the ARDS test

I hope to start my own MX5 track car project in the next month or so.

Not this one, I have part ownership in a MK2 that's being built as an endurance racer. This one is just for speed events like hill climbs, sprints and AutoSolos. Speaking of which.

First AutoSolo of the year. Done.

Bit of a disaster frankly. Firstly I was not in the zone and in the three runs of the first course I went wrong every time, dumb ass. I improved on the second course runs and only went wrong on one of the three, sadly due to the earlier navigational issues I was well down the pecking order (read, last out of 45). Lunch break arrived and we'd be warned the surface at this venue was super abrasive. It was. My tyres, the only set I had with me, were pretty much done. The rears were pretty worn but OK, the fronts were verging on the legal limit and I knew with that kind of wear rate the afternoon would see me down to the canvas. I decided to retire and go home having at least had fun in the morning.
