Bought this last year on a whim. 1991 car imported in 2003. It's done intergalactic mileage but is very straight and importantly already came fitted with some nice bits like the vented light lid, Larini cat back stainless exhaust and some Koni sport adjustable dampers.

Here it is shortly after I picked it up:

Since then I have lowered it 40mm on some Mazdaspeed springs, added a Garage Vary front lip and a KG works rear duck tail spoiler, had it machine polished and thrown some stickers on it.

As it currently stands:

Love it!

Nice, was going to say I'm sure I recognise this car from the Reading meets.

Looks great.

These are just the sort of topics that really make me consider putting mine up for sale!

MX5 tucked up in the garage while I remove the rear dampers and get them sent off to be rebuilt.

Picked up some standard rear suspension yesterday so I can remove the Konis that are blown and get them refurbished but still leave the car rolling.

It actually drives better as at least these dampers are ruined like the old ones! Hopefully have the old one rebuilt and back on it for Japfest in a couple of weeks.

Damper re-furb fail. Seems one of them has a damaged rod which needs replacing. The part is expensive (finding out how expensive tomorrow) and is unlikely to be done in time to get them back on the car for Japfest.

Yellow stuff pads fitted.
Aux and PAS belt replaced.
Oil and filter changed.

Just need to adjust the belts today as I think I over tensioned them and they whine a bit and going to bleed the brakes to firm up the peddle.

Discovered both my rear tyres are mullered (Video might show why) so going to have to swap a pair off the golf before the trackday on friday.

How does it compare to the Mk2 GTI?

I've got a MK2 at the minute and thinking of getting one to mess about with for summer....

I'd say it's kinda like a rwd convertable MKII Golf. Handles better out of the box than a mkII gti but my golf is far from standard so it would have the mx5 licked. Get one while they're cheap and enjoy it, I can't recommend MX5's enough. They truly live up to the hype. Huge fun at road legal speeds.

My MK2 is far from standard too, so im sure it would be quicker on track but I think as you say the MX5 is more fun at legal speeds. The mx5 i've seen has Konis and a few other bits so should be pretty handy as well.

Cracking day at Castle Combe today:

Sadly killed another damper (Same one as last time) but it managed the whole day. Properly epic day. Video to follow!
