This is my 1964 Lincoln Continental Convertible. It was a gift from my wife for my 40th birthday. She now wants to sell my lead sled.

I don't like that thought at all.

The car is a 27 footer. She looks good from that far away. Get closer and you may notice many of her flaws.

She starts, she turns with some effort (power steering pumps needs to be rebuilt) she stops but might not move too much since I"m rebuilding the tranny at this time.

always makes me smile seeing american cars in the UK.

My gran drives a gold (?!) '75 mercury grand marquis in canada, thing is like a boat, looks fantastic though.

Don't think my fat ass and fat car would fit on them British roads! I'm on the other side of the pond wear I can usually find a parking space or 2 to fit both our large butts in.

I think you need a fake military uniform with an excess of gold braid so you can sit in the back and be driven around. Top motor.

I found it strange that the US government refurbished that car, put a lid on it, and kept it in service.
It is in the Henry Ford Museum in Deerborne and I'd recommend a visit to anyone with an interest in vehicles, transport or (predominantly US) history.

I prefer it in the white, though.

They say white has a slimming effect as well. Also a lot of smoke and mirrors makes my 64 feel just a touch svelter.

Great looking motor.

Old American cars are a challenge on UK roads I know but worth the effort

I would gently remind her that since she gifted it to you, its no longer hers to sell.

What I found was most effective was to effectively hide the car. Now something that weighs approximately 5500 pounds is by no means as easy task.

Originally I had her hidden at my buddies garage.

My buddy had a garage fire, my wife swears that it put itself out because my car was in there. None of his cars were insured at the time so he really lucked out.

So then he sold that place. Now I have it stashed at a buddy's garage, waiting to get my tranny redone.

I used to own this 1965 Caddy eldorado

great car - no bigger than the latest mondeo estate

easy cuise at 15 mpg from the 7 litre engine

American cars find all but the smallest lanes drivable

your auto box shouldnt cost more than £ 500 to referb. The only problem

with american cars are the 'professional' repairers who try and rip their

customers off.....

I love the stacked headlight Caddies of the 60's. Great look, nice V8 motor, good for pulling all that weight around. Pretty simple to work on.

My Lincoln convertible is quite the complex system of relays, switches and hydraulics.

I have a rebuilt 430 motor sitting just next to my house. I'm going to go thru that motor as soon as I can find some friends to help me lift that 700 pound lump.

thanks for sharing those cool picts!

regards

ken
